At least Christie has killed his chances for 2016.
By then, with the national debt over 20 Trillion, the Muslim Brotherhood in control of the Middle East, and the Iranians in possession of plenty of nukes, things should be ripe for a change.

I’m not really sure what your concern is. With Mitt’s enormous budget increases for the military and lack of any enumerated plan for reducing the deficit, I guess I don’t understand what makes you think the debt would be worse is 2016 with Obama re-elected. Also, given that during the third debate Romney didn’t seem to be able to provide any clear picture of what he’d be doing differently than Obama, what makes you think he’d have a better outcome? Or, more pointedly, how do you suggest we control the leadership of sovereign nations in the middle east? What strategy do you think would curtail Iranian nuclear ambitions?

As of this early date, Christie looks like the strongest candidate the Republicans have for 2016. If the wingnut brigade blocks him, the party will have to settle for a weaker candidate. On the other hand, if Christie manages to get the nomination, he likely won’t be beholding to the wingnuts and could even begin the process of rescuing the Republican Party from being the John Birch Society 2.0.
He seems, from across the Hudson River, to be a sane Republican and probably would be at least a decent president.

In an editorial I saw in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution a couple of days ago Charles Krauthammer pretty much threw Christie under the bus in a discussion of the Republican’s young bench of up-and-comers.
John Pieret, I remember a couple of years ago there was a judge appointed/elected (don’t remember the details), who was a *gasp* skeery Muslim, and the Teabagger Brigade was up in arms. Christie basically told them to go fuck themselves.

I’ve been wondering if Chris Christie’s gushing over Obama’s handling of Sandy just before the election (in light of Romney’s “bridge too far” poll numbers) wasn’t a deliberate move to position himself as the “sane” republican of choice for 2016 in hopes that the party starts to distance itself from the wingnuts and move back toward the center.

@1 – Yeah, if we continue to extend the Bush tax cuts, we will almost certainly hit $20 trillion in 2016. Then again, if I were to treat my business the same way (only look to cut expenses – which can only happen so far – and completely ignore revenue), there wouldn’t be any business anymore either…

Bodenweiser has been charged with 113 counts of child molestation, which ended his chances of being elected to Delaware’s senate. Now, if it had been a thoroughly “red” state instead of Delaware, it might have been a different matter….

He does have some baggage given his service in the Bush Administration, but all the GOP’s best set of candidates will have baggage, and that baggage will only hurt him in the general, not the primary.

They want someone who follows and believes all of the Conservatism shibboleths (even when they conflict), but who can do so in public without alienating moderate Americans.
Essentially, they want the impossible, because when Conservatives say what they believe in public, and this part is the critical part, the public hears what they say.

Romney’s foreign policy, while indistinguishable from Obama’s, would work better. Because Romney.
The Romney Doctrine, you see, was to get right in there where ever there’s a problem and Romney the heck out of it. Heck, just him standing near a problem would sufficiently Romney most of it away.

Yes, Daniels is also strong. I don’t know much about Portman. It was no accident both Daniels and Christie were being courted to enter the primaries late last year and, no doubt, their perception of where the race was headed speaks well of their intelligence.
