In a few weeks I’m going to be in Springfield, Missouri at Skepticon. I’d like to meet this minister while I’m there. That city is considering an ordinance to add sexual orientation to their anti-discrimination laws and Phil Snider of the Brentwood Christian Church got up to give a speech against the ordinance. Kind of. You have to watch the whole thing.

Bravo!
I was very happy to see this preacher verbally offend the anti-gay Christians who were confronted with this speech. Let’s hope that audience receives it as cogent criticism which gets them to think about the demonstrable hypocrisy of their Bible-based arguments on gays. As opposed to wrongly concluding the preacher’s rhetoric is instead harassment and therefore speech which is rightly suppressed rather than celebrated as I do here.

He did say right up front that he was speaking in support of the measure (which would have added “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the municipal equal protection statute, so “in support” was a good thing.) But yeah, this was very well done.

Brilliant point, beautifully made. I only hope that it is listened to.

I just saw this elsewhere and almost stopped it cold, then almost halfway through, but am glad that I watched to the end.
Did you notice that a few people applauded?

So the takeaway here is that we need more racial segregation?

That was absolutely brilliant-and I also didn’t catch the initial statement about him being in support of the measure.
Yes-you have to see the whole thing.
Thanks Ed!

I have long thought that it would make a great project to go and collect as many of the statements from opponents of the ruling in Loving v Virginia and in support of the miscegenation laws and put them into a book. Maybe even put them in columns with identical statements against same-sex marriage. The arguments are absolutely identical.
