I was reading the latest screed by Bradlee Dean in the Worldnutdaily and I was struck not only by the absurdity of his ideas but by how badly he writes. He writes like a typical high school student, using words he doesn’t understand and odd sentences to try to sound more intelligent than he is. To wit:
If the SPLC cannot force schools through totalitarian means to accept its “Mix It Up at Lunch Day,” then it will defend Obama’s hand-picked, degenerate, radical homosexual Dan Savage, founder of the It Gets Better Project. A man who touts around under the guise of “anti-bullying,” and who earlier this year assailed high school students who take a biblical stance on homosexuality at a high school journalism conference.
A man who touts around? I don’t think he knows what that word means. Do they not have editors at WND? Was there no one to read a draft and ask him what the hell that could possibly mean? And the last sentence is actually a sentence fragment.
As you know, the socialist-communist agenda has always had a problem with how to defend and promote an indefensible agenda, dedicating themselves by covertly undermining and ultimately destroying American society as to implementing socialism/communism.
That’s just a big hot mess. What is the “as to” doing in there? And what does it mean? This is the kind of writing that gives English teachers ulcers.

Bradlee Dean:
This is clearly inspired of God as channeled through Sarah Palin.
If some wide spaces show-up between some words in the block-quote above, that wasn’t due to anything I did. They’re showing up in Preview with my having no idea why. Perhaps wide-stance Larry Craig is taking possession of Ed’s blog because we’ve mentioned Minnesotan Bradlee Dean a sufficient number of times to get Sen. Craig’s attention.

Your title for this post is too long. It should be Bradlee Dean: Terrible. He is a terrible writer. He is a terrible thinker. He’s a terrible person. I would even wager that he is a terrible driver and a terrible cook.

And in the midst of that hot mess he accuses the SPLC (apparently now a “homosexual activist group”…I guess all that whole civil rights thing in the 60′s was just a clever diversionary tactic?) of “misusing language…
Too funny.

Those with perfect faith have no need of perfect grammar and word use; their sheep will understand them.
All they have to do is throw out “radical homosexual” and link it to the nebulous “socialist-communist agenda”* and the target audience gets the meaning: “Four legs good, two legs better!”
* A catch-all for “anything I don’t like/understand/involves teh icky buttsecks.”

Is the agenda an “it” or a “themselves”? And Dan Savage is Obama’s hand-picked homosexual for what? Did the president select him to be gay? I didn’t know sexual orientation worked by presidential fiat.

Presumably anyone analytical (and anal) enough to be an editor would spontaneously combust upon entering WND headquarters.

Gretchen at 9:
Right- wingers seem to believe that gays are made through child molestation so I guess Dean is claiming that Obama used his time machine to moleste Dan Savage as a child. Hence the use of the phrase “hand- picked”.

Even though MH doesn’t want me to address him any more, I will note that it appears that block-quoting for some reason is causing both left and right justification.

An editor at WND would be as useful as tits on an alligator. I’ll retract that. Tits on an alligator would be much more useful.

Severaal writers have described him as such without protest from him. He defended Ron Paul and he filled in for Andrew Sullivan, where he didn’t take a notably different stance on anything. Voting for Obama only seems odd if you think libertarianism is just a front for Republicans.

I’d say voting for Obama only seems odd if you think being a libertarian means something, but that’s just me. Generally speaking I call people what they call themselves, and to my knowledge Dan Savage does not call himself a libertarian.

Not defending the idiot here, but “touts around” is probably a simple typo. The “T” key is next to the “R”.

There fixed it. The punctuation anyways. It is really just one long incoherent sentence. IMHFO there is no way to either make this a rational statement or to reduce the complete ignorance of the “writer” as he seems immune to logical reasoning.

Dan Savage is (as far as I can see) libertarian only as far as he is sex-positive.
He’s very much about “you can do what you want and should’nt be shunned for it as long as you don’t hurt anyone” on the sex front.
He’s also libertarian concerning drug-use (mainly weed, alcohol).
I can’t remember a single podcast of his where he’d go ranting about free markets, the gold standard or a small state. He pretty much fits the “libertarian as far as my progressive values go” bracket.

Wouldn’t that imply that they actually care? Happily I’ve never been subjected to the WND but your descriptions make it seem like the cheapest vehicle for ads they can manage, appealing to the lowest common denominator and assuming their audience will see any word they don’t understand as both evidence of the genius of the writer and as validation of whatever prejudice they have against the target of the article.

Gretchen:
The President used Mr. Savage as a test subject for his Destruction of Marriage Agenda (oooh, another DOMA). Perhaps I shouldn’t say that too loud. There might be a right wing nutcase lurking.
