ThinkProgress catches yet another Republican member of the House claiming credit for a project in their district that was funded by the stimulus bill that they voted against and even later tried to defund. This time it’s Rep. Rick Berg of North Dakota, who made a campaign stop at the grand opening of a new bridge paid for by funds he tried to kill:
However, Berg voted to strip funding for the bridge construction last year, nearly killing the entire project.
In just his second month after taking office, Berg and House Republicans voted to defund all stimulus money that had yet to be spent, including $14.13 million for Minot’s 55th Street bridge. The entire project was nearly scrapped after Berg’s vote put funding in jeopardy.
Lather, rinse, repeat with almost every Republican in Congress.

Congresscritters like Berg remind me of the dog in an old Warner Brothers cartoon. In the cartoon the dog was given some food and proceeded to badmouth the food and its provider, while wolfing down the chow. If anyone thinks that I am somehow equating the habits of congressional reptilicans with mangy, greedy, slovenly and dishonest curs–well, then, my work is done, here!

What disturbs me most is the vast republican contingency who are A OK with supporting known hypocrites and liars. I want to ask them… Why is this OK with you? How can you not call your political leaders out on their lies? At what point can you say they’ve gone too far? When your position can only be supported by lies and cheap Jr. high sophistry, the answer is NOT to jettison truth and integrity but to drop the position.

A few guys i know would solve the hypocrisy with an analogy. Well, he simply voted to not put money on the table and when there was money on the table, he did the right think and took it. This misses the detail about being intellectually consistent or that you shouldn’t take it when you think it is wrongful. Regardless, it’s a place to hang their hat so they are happy.

The gnu Republican platform is this- lie your fucking ass off! People are falling for it. Everybody is giving Obama a hard time for “losing” the debate. How in the hell can anybody prepare to debate a liar!? I think Ronmey genuinely caught Obama off guard with lies. My heart is saddened by this mess, and my younger sisters will lose reproductive rights because of a festival of lies :(

The actual hypocrisy is in the stated Republican belief that the stimulus money did no good and created no jobs. If that’s what they really think, they should at best be indifferent as to whether the money gets spent in their district or somewhere else, and they should send the money back to Washington any chance they get (because lord knows, borrowing at 0% interest is going to kill us). The fact that they’re so eager to take the money and then brag about it shows that they are clearly full of shit.

By compiling a list of the liar’s known lies? By keeping track of what the liar says, so that a contradiction can be pointed out immediately? By knowing the facts, and stating them?
Unfortunately, all these tactics require a bare minimum of audacity, in which trait Barack Obama suffers a severe deficiency.
