Clever Video on Romney and SCOTUS

People for the American Way has a website addressing what might happen to the Supreme Court if Romney is elected president, especially given that his chief adviser on such matters is Robert Bork. Romney says he wishes Bork was on the court now. And they’ve got a pretty clever video out about it:

This is probably the best reason for someone who is browned off at Obama to vote for him, especially if he/she lives in a purple state (e.g. Florida, Ohio, Virginia).

The ad is a bit too vague. Way to many voters are simply too young to remember Bork. Way to many voters old enought to have heard of him have heard Fox News, etc. for years say that Bork was “Borked.” So the vast majority of potential voters have no idea just how radical Bork really is. And unless people have that background of knowing how radical Bork is I don’t see how this ad will move them.

“I am led by the logic of the requirement that judges be principled to the following suggestions. Constitutional protection should be accorded only to speech that is explictily political. There is no basis for judicial intervention to protect any other form of expression, be it scientific, literary or that variety of expression we call obscene or pornographic. Moreover, within that category of speech we ordinarily call political, there should be no constitutional obstruction to laws making criminal any speech that advocates forcible overthrow of the government or the violation of any law.”
