If there’s one thing you can count on these days, it’s that the Christian right loonies will be making idiotic predictions of the end of America — doom, I tell you, doom — if Obama is reelected. Today’s version comes from Jim Garlow on Tony Perkins’ radio show:
Perkins: Dr. Garlow, how critical is the Christian vote in this upcoming election.
Garlow: At the risk of being misunderstood, I am going to say it this bluntly: we have 61 days of America left. I know that sounds melodramatic to some, it sounds alarmist, Chicken Little to some people. But we have 61 days. If we do not see a change at this time, America will be set on a trajectory that will make it unrecognizable in four years; it is almost that today.
We have 61 days of America left. If we do not turn at this point, America as we have known her will be forever gone. It is crisic that people vote, that they activate, that they become informed and they influence every other people they can regardless of how unreceptive people might be to them announcing where they stand on the issues. It is time for us to be unbelievably bold.
And thank you Tim and thank you Tony for what you men do. When historians record what turned America someday, your names are going to be there.
No they won’t. Those names will be on a different list, up there with George Wallace as bigots who lost the fight to keep their bigotry enshrined in the law.

At least Chicken Little got smacked on the head with something heavy before he got all hysterical. So no, Tony, you’re like what would happen if Chicken Little had woken up without provocation and decided that the sky was falling: delusional.
I’m reminded of an SNL skit where a new hosts asks one commenter to “out-crazy” another.

Maybe he’s referring to the America after the exodus of all those ultra-conservatives who have vowed to leave America should Obama get re-elected.
fingers crossed

How exactly does he think that America today is almost unrecognizable from four years ago? I don’t see much difference. I assume he is working in “Obama’s war on religion” which seems to be that some local judges have given decisions the right don’t like, that Catholic charities don’t get special treatment to ignore regulations (which were actually the justifications Perry gave) and the new one, that people who work for Catholic organisations can get contraceptive coverage in the health insurance that the organisation does not have to pay for, rather than paying for it directly out of the money the organisation paid them.

He’s talking about the “real America”–himself and his cronies–being doomed.
Good riddance.

I invite them, as they have often invited those of us on the left, to leave if it’s so bad.

Funny, for me, the past decade has been about realizing that the America I believed in was largely a facade and that there’s no shortage of people who are eager to tear even that facade down with everything else. It’s usually wingnuts, but they’ve had periods of bipartisan support, including from Obama.

Four years ago these same people were running around proclaiming that Obama was this Manchurian candidate who would turn America into an atheist/fascist/nazi/socialist/Muslim/communist hellhole. Instead, we got a president who implemented a series of policies (including the insurance mandate) that republicans used to endorse – not that they’ll ever admit it.
Now they’re running around saying that Obama has just been waiting for his second term to peal off his mask and reveal himself to be the space reptile who will turn America into an atheist/fascist/nazi/socialist/Muslim/communist hellhole.
And four years from now, they will be proclaiming that whoever gets the democratic nomination in 2016 is lizard person who will turn America into an atheist/fascist/nazi/socialist/Muslim/communist hellhole.
Welcome to the new normal.

Noooooo! They’re on to our plans! We have 61 days. I’ll handle the abortions, I can do up to 10 an hour, though I’ll need a shift partner to work through the night. We need volunteers for same-sex abominating, promiscuity, blasphemy, freethinkin’, drinking, eating meat on Fridays, and sleeping during Church services.

I’ll handle this one. In one of those strange coincidences, I can handle about 10 an hour.
Okay, not entirely strange. I’ve been building up to 10 an hour every night for years.

We have 61 days of America left.
Really? Even if Romney defeats Obama in November, Obama will still be in office until January of 2013. Freed of the constraints of having to appeal to the electorate, what’s to stop the Kenyan usurper from unleashing his godless tyranny on us knowing he no longer has anything to lose? Garlow is so naive!

Oh, so it’s crisic, eh? I couldn’t find a definition of that word; every source assumed I meant “crisis.” But taking it as a back-formation from “crisis”, meaning “of crisis proportions,” I can interpret this statement as equivalent to:
This would be in perfect accord with right-wing attitudes.
But for me, the thought that voters might be waking up is “oasic.”

I’m an Episcopal, so we can help out on the enforced same-sex marriages. If he works fast, our priest can knock out at least 120 marriages a day (he’ll follow the Lutheran pattern; Lutheran weddings are so quick they create a sonic boom). Oh! And the Unitarians are literally across the street from us, so they can do at least 80 a day (smaller congregation), or help with rounding up heterosexuals at gunpoint to be randomly paired off and mated.
I’ll get some web-cams and we’ll film the mandatory public consummations, and make a bit of money on the side.

Ah… A minor detail just struck me.
Okay, the election is in 61 days… But so what? The inauguration isn’t until the end of January, which is the day when the President is sworn in to actually do his job.
This takes a lot of pressure off: we heathens have closer to 145 days more or less to wreak havoc, ending with the celebratory bisexual drug orgy (no holes barred, baby!) on the White House lawn.

It’s critical that PEOPLE vote. Not subhumans such as blacks, hispanics, mooslims, gays, females, etc.
Po’ white trash are ok, as long as they can still be convinced to vote against their own interests.

Here’s a thought: maybe the Rapture will happen before the election. That would be the best for everyone. They’ll be so happy to be teleported off to heaven — or where ever. We get our planet back. Spread the word. Rapture Day is Nov 5. Anyone who votes early is demonstrating lack of faith and will be left behind.

In case anyone is interested*:
Intrade today
Winner of the 2012 Presidential election
by party
Democratic: 60.939% (up by 3,1813% since 1 Sept) [Lead by 21.978]
Republicans: 38.961% (down by 3.1811% ” ” “)
other: 0.100% (down 0.0002% ” ” “).
Head to head match-up
Obama: 60.340% (up by 2.597% since 1 Sept) [Lead by 20.697]
Romney: 39.660% (down ” ” ” ” “).
So we can expect mass emigration of fundies in early November (’cause otherwise they’d be hypocrites and that is just so totally inconceivable @@).
