Mitt Romney: Tea Party Candidate

In his continuing campaign to be all things to all people simultaneously, Mitt Romney has sent out one of his senior advisers to make the case that he is truly the candidate of the Tea Party. Why? Because, like them, he’s an “outsider” on a crusade to change Washington.

Speaking at POLITICO’s Playbook Breakfast with Mike Allen, senior Romney adviser Ron Kaufman said that the GOP candidate believes in shrinking government, slashing taxes and cutting spending — just like the grassroots movement. Romney won twice as many tea party votes than any of his primary rivals, Kaufman noted, and he pointed out that the candidate has “never” spent time serving in Washington.

“He actually is the tea party movement,” Kaufman said. “He truly is the outside candidate not the inside candidate.”

If he managed to say that with a straight face, we may have an early favorite for the Academy Award for best actor. As Newt Gingrich, another politician who absurdly tried to pose as an outsider, said during one of the debates, the only reason Romney is not a career politician is that he has lost most of his elections.

So Romney is a loser? Sounds like he fits right in with the Tea Party.

Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip your wait staff.

Slippery blighter that he is, will end up being nothing to everybody.

Who can trust Mr Etch-a-Sketch really?

Reckon they’re feeling as trapped and uncomfortable under Mittens dubious candidacy as a dog on a hot car roof!

So what we’re saying is that Romney is Leonard Zelig.

  4. holytape:

Well, he is like the people who pay for the tea party movement. Does that count?

Am I the only one reading this and thinking it means romney isn’t house trained? “Don’t let mitt in the house, last time he got in he ran around like a lunatic, knocked over and broke that antique vase, clawed the furniture and did a shit on the rug. I rubbed his nose in it but he just smiled in a bemused way and tried to fake vague mirth that wasn’t reflected in his cold, dead eyes”

It seems like the leaders of the Republican party are holding a convention where they assume their presidential ticket will lose. Therefore they’re exploiting this convention as an opportunity to each market their personal brand, especially some for 2016. The party is also distancing themselves from both Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney in a way analogous to how they deny the Bush era ever happened and the entire party’s actions during that era.

One benefit for the country in all these gyrations is the shunning of Sarah Palin, not just by Mr. Romney, but also the GOP and the powers behind the GOP. She is effectively persona non grata as the party presents itself to the general public. Even Roger Aisles is shunning her this week though I’m confident he’ll continue to use Ms. Palin in the future as a magnet for horny angry white men and dumb conservative females who hold a grudge on people discriminating against them because they’re stupid; just not when it’s important the GOP promote its brand to the general public when votes are at stake when the context is purple rather than a red state district.

As I said elsewhere…”The US Tea party, Vanguard party or useful idiots?”

Hardly surprising. If getting an endorsement from the KKK would help Romney win the election, he’d have given his acceptance speech in a pointy white hood in front of a burning cross.

Romney is white – despite all their crap about lowering the national debt, balancing the budget, declaring war on every country in the middle-east except Israel, etc, that is all the ‘baggers really care about and they will vote for him as told to by their leaders Rush, Sean et al.
