Seriously, it’s time for Dave Mustaine to just STFU. At a Megadeth concert in Singapore recently he delivered this little mini-sermon to the audience claiming that Obama staged the Aurora and Wisconsin shootings and was turning the country Nazi.
Back in my country, my president, he’s trying to pass a gun ban, so he’s staging all of these murders, like the ‘Fast And Furious’ thing down at the border; Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there; and now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple. I was talking to JD, our promoter here tonight, great guy, I was saying, you know, I don’t know where I’m going to live if it keeps going the way it’s going because it looks like it’s turning into Nazi America. And he said move down here to Singapore.
I think that’s a great idea, Dave. Move to Singapore. And don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Yeah, he’d love Singapore with its commitment to free speech, its easy access to firearms and high rate of gun ownership. Er…

I’d like every conservative calling for the heads of the Dixite Chicks a few years back to weigh in on this right now.

Would he stay here if we passed gun ownership laws like Singapore’s, or would we have to go even stricter to drive him out? Whatever it takes…

Untrue. Even the much feared “UN convention” is to deal with gun smuggling between countries, and there are paras in it specifically exempting in-country firearms.
That’s just ridiculous. He completely forgot that Obama’s using the Obama Family Time Machine to do it!
Which is the child of programs that preceded his administration. And the actual story is far more interesting than the “Obama bad!” one.
America, truly the land of opportunity. Where even a black man can be a Nazi.
Gun laws in Singapore:
Citizens in Singapore must obtain a license to lawfully possess firearms and/or ammunition; applicants must provide justification for the license, such as target shooting or self-defense. Target shooting licenses permit ownership of a gun, stored in an approved and protected firing range. Self-defense permits are nearly never granted, unless one can justify the ‘imminent threat to life that cannot be reasonably removed’. Citizens are not allowed to possess pistols over .32 caliber, or automatic weapons.

Crap! Everybody said what I said while I was drafting the thing that I was saying!
How about:
Healthcare:
Singapore has a non-modified universal healthcare system where the government ensures affordability of healthcare within the public health system, largely through a system of compulsory savings, subsidies and price controls. Singapore’s system uses a combination of compulsory savings from payroll deductions to provide subsidies within a nationalized health insurance plan known as Medisave.

Actually, despite such things as tight gun control and socialized medicine, Singapore is one of the few nominally democratic nations that might appeal to conservatives.
After all, they have the type of conservative, authoritarian single-party government they can only dream about back home. Hell, they’re so bad-ass they don’t even publish the number of criminals they execute every year. What’s not to like?

Does anyone know where Obama finds people willing to commit suicide-by-cop (Bill Gwatney and Sikh Temple) or spend the rest of their lives in jail (James Holmes)? I would guess CIA mind control, but he had Gwatney murdered before became President. Was the CIA working for him even back then?

Wingnuts would love Singapore where you can be caned for the use or importation of chewing gum. Imagine what they could do with the gays under such a system.

Mustaine clearly has a drug-damaged memory, given that he’s forgotten what he said when the Dixie Chicks criticized the President while on foreign soil:

Interestingly, the USA and Singapore are two of the outliers when homicide rates (in rich countries) are graphed against income inequality. In general, there’s quite a good correlation: the more income inequality, the higher the homicide rate. The USA and Singapore are both highly unequal, but singapore, with its unusually strict gun laws, is unexpectedly low on homicides, while the USA, with its gun culture, is considerably higher even than one might expect – almost off the chart, in fact. I wonder why that could be.

Singapore gives a mandatory death sentence to “any person importing, exporting, or found in possession of more than the following quantities of drugs….” The list of those actual drugs is pretty standard. Coke, meth, pot (yeah, pot), even friggin’ morphine.
I’m sure Mustaine will LOVE it there, along with having to store all his guns at the firing range.

An entertainer telling the audience he is thinking of moving to their country. I thought that was standard spiel for all entertainers everywhere.

Perhaps he and Ted Nugent could have a smackdown where each tries to out-rant or “out-hallucinate” the other.
It might even start a trend in which such extremists cancel themselves out.

@17: *Facepalm.* Yes, we’re all criticizing Mustaine’s comments because of “I’m thinking of moving to Singapore” portion of his comments and not the “Obama staged the Colorado and Wisconsin shootings” part.

Mustaine has quite an elaborate conspiracy theory thing going on. I guess because he assumes that Obama hates America so much that he would purposefully have people killed just to ban guns, it all makes sense to him. My question to him would be “Why? Why go do something so horrific just to ban guns?” And secondly, who would honestly feel comfortable carrying out these orders? Or is that another conspiracy?

Never liked the guy. I mean, if you’re so drunk and drug-addled that fucking Metallica (infamous for their own drinking escapades and epic douchebaggery) kicks you out… yeah…
Anyway, I hope he does up stakes and move to Singapore. Good riddance.

You’ll have to try harder than that. The gun lobby responds to facts the same as the religious right does.

I’m just gonna say, for the benefit of anyone who actually thinks Mustaine makes a cogent point about gun ownership:
Your right to self-expression will lose when it comes up against my nose; your right to be a fuckhead with a gun is all over when you attempt to exercise your 2nd Amendment against the 1st Armored Division.

Knowing Singapore Mustaine may, to use an appropriate idiom in this case, dodged a bullet. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they have some sort of law there against criticising the leaders of friendly foreign nations.

It is fascinating that Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica for being a nasty piece of shit whenever he got drunk. Replaced him with the calm, quiet, steady Kirk Hammett.
