LA School Stops Mandatory Pregnancy Tests

Remember the public charter school in Louisiana that was requiring pregnancy tests for any female student suspected of being pregnant? They very quickly backed down and rescinded that policy after the ACLU sent them a letter about it. That’s good, but it’s still a problem that they ever thought they had the authority to do that in the first place.

“They very quickly backed down and rescinded that policy after the ACLU sent them a letter about it.”

Indicates pretty well that they knew it was illegal and didn’t want to get embroiled in a legal fight with someone with the muscle to fight back.

Makes one wonder if it was just posturing in the first place. Now, whoever was really behind it can claim more shenanigans by the ACLU and get that funding drive going for their new Mercedes..eerrr…I mean, soup kitchen.

Come on, you know as well as I that before 18 they only have rights until they’re born.

Maybe they started realizing that some people wouldn’t be deterred by the law to not send them some extra urine to test.

Because that is what posturing is for. If they got away with it for a while, that’s just a bonus. But they made their position known, and can now join in with their portion of the electorate in whining about how persecuted they are.

A charter school that doesn’t want pregnant teens is probably doing the teens a favor. Said teens will then have to attend a public school that may actually offer something educational rather than biblical pap. Please read this comment with a ton of snark and a grain of honesty. I in no way support this joke of a school.

Merely the fact that some asshat thought this was not only not wrong, but positively the right thing to do, amazes me, and makes me think those “educators” should in no wise be left alone with children.

But that’s the problem, isn’t it? These charter school predators are not educators but business sharpsters, looking to make a fast buck out of a pile of gummint cash.

We have a case here in Eugene currently. Charter school opens up, touting their ability to improve outcomes at lower cost. After a year or two, the teachers notice that the school is not paying into their public employee retirement accounts as they are required to do as a public charter school. The district, not being in the Deep South, rescinded the charter. The head of the school complained…from her six-week vacation in Paris.

Despite the crazy christian veneer, my suspicion is most of the charter movement is about cashing in…
