I’m on the mailing list for the Thomas More Law Center, which means I get some pretty amusing emails in my inbox now and then. This morning I received one with the headline, “Michele Bachman Joins TMLC’s Citizens Advisory Board— Puts her country above politics, party and political correctness.” It’s always good to wake up to laughter.
The Thomas More Law Center today announced that Congresswomen Michele Bachmann (R- MN) has agreed to serve on the Law Center’s Citizens Advisory Board.
In accepting service on the Advisory Board, Congresswoman Bachmann stated, “I am pleased to join forces with the Thomas More Law Center. They are in the courts aggressively fighting the internal threat to America posed by radical Islam.” …
Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, commented, “We are honored to have the counsel of a tough, tested, true American patriot; a person who puts her country above politics, party and political correctness. She understands and shares our concerns about the internal threat to our nation posed by Stealth Jihad as well as maintaining the Judeo-Christian values that made this nation ‘the shining city on the hill.” …
Bachmann expressed her strong commitment to America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and values: “I am honored to stand with the Thomas More Law Center as they engage in the legal battles to uphold the Judeo-Christian values upon which our country was founded.”

TMLC is named for the Catholic Saint Thomas More, a famous Protestant heretic hunter who managed to find a kill a few Protestants while his associates hunted down and killed even more.
Payback was forthcoming, as Thomas More himself was killed by Protestants for being a prominent Catholic Protestant hunter.
Bachmann’s own church, the WELS, says right on their website that the Catholic church is the church of satan and the Pope is the antichrist.
I guess these days, they hate Moslems, secularists, Democrats, and atheists more than they hate each other.

1) I’m fairly sure that I saw Stealth Jihad at CBGB.
B) I think the interns at TMLC got bored and tried to see how many times they could use the phrase “Judeo-Christian values” in one press release.

This bad tag team drama will of course later result – should they win the country and defeat their common enemies – in the Papists and Heretics turning on each other, led by the hard core on each side.
Religious bigots cannot entertain the idea of losing, since God is on their side, so they take risks which sane folks (for this reason alone) would not contemplate.
If only we could dress them all up in gaudy costumes, and let them fight it out in a ring somewhere – the Sunni and Shi’ite jihadists, the Dominionists and Opus Dei, the Tea Party and any other interested champions of the Kingdom of Heaven. I don’t think I could bear to watch it, but I might still invest in popcorn futures.

Not exactly. He was definitely a devout Catholic, but his problems with Henry VIII weren’t due to his heretic-hunting habits. Both he and Henry loathed Martin Luther and all of his followers, and Henry quite approved of opposing their perceived heresy. The problem came when Henry separated from the Church of Rome, and named himself the head of the Church of England. This was all done for political reasons, not theological, and sprung from Henry’s obsession with male heirs. More objected to Henry supplanting the Pope, and refused to swear oaths acknowledging Henry as head of the Church. Henry interpreted this as disloyalty, and had More tried and executed on charges of treason. It had nothing at all to do with his activities opposing heresy, and certainly wasn’t any kind of Protestant revenge. Henry VIII would have strongly denied being a Protestant, given his views on Luther.

Ironically, the Pope bestowed the title “Defender of the Faith” on Henry VIII because of his writings in opposition to Martin Luther.
The British monarchy still uses that title despite Henry’s later break with the Catholicism.

Well, I’ve always seen it as a break with the Church leadership rather than a break with Catholicism, at least in Henry’s day. Admittedly, that’s a bit of a nit.

This is actually pretty accurate for Bachmann as opposed to most politicians. She really is a true believer in whatever batshit-crazy garbage she’s spewing.
(“Stealth Jihad” would also be a good name for a drink.)
