Dick Morris’ Absurd Claims

Is there a more ridiculous person in American politics than Dick Morris? He helped run Clinton’s campaigns and then jumped ship to the right and became Fox News’ favorite “insider.” He routinely goes on Fox News and makes ridiculous claims like this:

DICK MORRIS: I guarantee you, Sean, based on what I’ve heard from third parties or I’ve spoken to that William Jefferson Clinton is going to cast his ballot for Mitt Romney.

HANNITY: Wow!

MORRIS: However, he’s going to open his mouth for Barack Obama because his wife is hostage. They have her under lock and key as Secretary of State, and he is scared that Obama will lose and blame him if he undermines Obama. So he’ll do everything he asks him to do and then he’ll jab him whenever he can.

There’s some evidence that there has long been some tension between Obama and the Clintons, and it’s certainly true that Bill has made some statements that weren’t helpful to Obama. But he’s also a professional and a loyal Democrat and he will get on the bus and campaign for Obama, including apparently a major speech at the convention. The notion that he will vote for Romney is simply absurd, but also, you’ll notice, can never be supported with evidence. Predictions that can never be verified are easy to make, aren’t they?

  1. KG says

Suppose he did vote for Romney after campaigning for Obama. The chance that it would make any difference to the outcome is negligible.

  2. DaveL says

Oh hell, this is easily the least crazy thing to come out of Dick Morris’ mouth recently. Have you caught his tinfoil hattery regarding the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty?

  3. KG says

My #1 is unclear: by “it” I meant Bill Clinton voting for Romney, not Bill Clinton campaigning for Obama.

  4. Yoritomo says

This would make more sense if Morris claimed that Bill Clinton was concerned about Hillary’s career if Obama gets reelected despite Bill’s sabotage, but that’s not what Morris claims. Why would Bill be concerned about Hillary’s career if Obama loses? How much could Bill be concerned about Hillary’s career at all while doing his best to stealthily sabotage it?

  5. StevoR says

Is there a more ridiculous person in American politics than Dick Morris?

Probably. Michelle Bachmann? Rick Santorum? Jim Inhofe?

    Sadly no shortage of candidates.

  6. Michael Heath says

    Ed asks rhetorically:

Is there a more ridiculous person in American politics than Dick Morris?

Fox News recruits and broadcasts people like Dick Morris and their views. What the following claim is to be one thing (in parentheses) and demonstrate they are in fact a practical enemy of that very thing. E.g., Dick Morris (liberal-moderate, patriot), Bill O’Reilly (independent), Bernard Goldberg (liberal, journalist), S.E. Cupp (atheist), Hugh Hewitt (intellectual), Brit Hume (journalist), Oliver North (patriot), Ben Stein (economist), and Mike Huckabee (constitutionalist). I’m confident other readers could add other qualified members to this set.

So while I can’t make a compelling argument on which American practicing politics is the most ridiculous, I think I can make a case Fox News attracts far more ridiculous people than any other major media outlet.

  7. says

This makes me think of the Globe tabloid, which claimed back in April that Clinton had proof Obama isn’t a Real Murican, but won’t reveal it because Obama will have him killed.

  8. Who Knows? says

I suppose Dick Morris, and many of the Fox News commentators, have to periodically come up with these kinds of statements just to keep themselves in the spotlight at Fox. He probably had a summer vacation to pay for so he had to come up with something good.

  9. says

Well, considering Bill Clinton has been a New York voter for the last just-over-a-decade, it probably doesn’t matter anyway… Obama’s going to carry New York, so Morris might just pretend that qualifies as evidence.

  10. lancifer says

    Why that’s nothin’.

I guarantee you, Ed, based on what I’ve heard from third parties or I’ve spoken to that Barack Hussein Obama is going to cast his ballot for Mitt Romney.

However, he’s going to open his mouth for himself because his wife is holding him hostage. She has him under lock and key as POTUS, and he is scared that he will lose and Michelle will blame him if he undermines himself. So he’ll do everything she asks him to do and then he’ll jab her whenever he can.

    Prove me wrong!

  11. matty1 says

    Donald Trump?

    The “I’m-not-a-witch” woman?

    Herman Caine?

Two of those I’ll grant you I’m not sure if Trump was ever actually in American politics beyond a few politics flavoured PR stunts. Has he ever run for an elected office or even worked for someone who was running?

  12. says

Morris should stick to something he knows, toe-sucking. What an idiot! Independent of any personal issues between Clintons and Obamas, Dick tell me, any policy that mittwit proposes that Bill would endorse. I doubt any personal animosity, if it even exists, could induce Bill to vote for someone who so completely denies the policies Bill encouraged.

  13. says

There is tension between the Clintons and the Obamas, but there is a far greater tension between Morris and the Clintons. I think this is just part of his ongoing, profitable, thumb-in-the-eye retaliation against the Clintons.

    A reminder of that history.

  14. says

This is so stupid on so many levels it’s just not worth getting into. Morris’s explanation requires that Clinton both wants Obama to lose and to win, that he works both for and against him. It fails to make sense in any possible world, except one in which B. Clinton is simply nuts.

Also, H. Clinton has said that she won’t serve as Sec. State in a second Obama term, so there goes that theory.

  15. Nemo says

Dick Morris was always to the right. He’s the one responsible for triangulation. I think of him more as evil than ridiculous.

  16. Pinky says

Every time Dick Morris talks I envision him doing it while wearing a dog collar and on his hands & knees with occasional barks thrown in.

That scene is what I remember most when Morris’ escapades with prostitutes came out.

I respect sex workers, they are people trying to get along in this world. I don’t respect political whores such as Morris who apparently had no problem with disrespecting his wife and his president.

  17. iangould says

He;ll denty it of course but I hear from reliable third parties that Dick Morris will be voting for David Duke.

  18. birgerjohansson says

    “I guarantee you”….

So, if it turns out wrong, he will pay the listener a large amount of money? No, I didn’t think so.

The word “guarantee” is meaningless in his mouth.

  19. d cwilson says

Oh hell, this is easily the least crazy thing to come out of Dick Morris’ mouth recently.

The least crazy thing to ever come out of Dick Morris’ mouth was the foot of a prostitute.

    Ba-dum-bump.

Seriously, in 2004, Morris was very loudly advancing the theory that Hillary was plotting to steal the nomination out from under John Kerry at the convention. He has never gotten over being bounced from the Clinton campaign in 1996 over his prostitute toe-sucking scandal and has dedicated his life to smearing his former friends ever since. You can bet that any time he claims to have “insider” information about the Clinton’s, he’s pulling it straight from his ass.

  20. Childermass says

And he is not doing a immitation of Sen. Reid? Wow.

Of course Mrs. Clinton could probably make more money outside of the State Department so she is clearly not a hostage.
