Fischer: ‘Big Gay’ Picking On Poor Chick-Fil-A

It’s always amusing to hear the anti-gay bigots, who seem to spend most of their time launching boycotts against companies they deem to be insufficiently hateful, cry and scream about how intolerant anyone else is if they try to pressure corporations to support equality. Bryan Fischer throws a delightful little temper tantrum here:

And they’re trying to present themselves as these innocent little victims, helpless and hapless, being picked on across the fruited plain. And they’re not. They are bullies. They are intolerant, they are vicious, they are mean, and they are after people of faith. There’s no ‘live and let live’ with the bullies at Big Gay. They don’t know anything about tolerance. Tolerance is not in their vocabulary. They have no tolerance for those who support the institution of the natural family. None, zip, zero. They have no room in their so-called ‘diversity world’ for people who believe in natural marriage. They claim to be all about diversity, but there is no room in their world for anybody that believes in traditional moral values. They’re absolutely intolerant and they have no room, they’re anti-diversity…

So I’m talking about this with regard specifically to Chick-fil-A. And I am pointing out specifically that the bullies at Big Gay are coming after Chick-fil-A. They’re trying to take them out, they’re trying to obliterate them, they’re trying to go Ahmadinejad on Chick-fil-A, they want them wiped off the face of the map. Let’s make it our goal to buy out every chicken sandwich that Chick-fil-A makes on August 1. Let’s have them run out of chickens, let’s send them out behind the restaurant with an ax to cut the heads off of more chickens to feed people because they’re selling so many chicken sandwiches.

He doesn’t seem to know — or care — that Ahmadinejad is just as much of a bigot as he is, and against the very same people. They’re so cute when they ball up their fists and stamp their feet, aren’t they?

I used to think that Fischer was just a garden variety religious hypocrite. At this point, I’m wondering if he’s psychologically incapable of self-awareness.

  2. mjmiller says

Holy crap! Can I nominate that as the most Bryan Fischer Award worthy rant I have ever read from Bryan Fischer?

  3. busterggi says

“They’re absolutely intolerant and they have no room, they’re anti-diversity…”

I don’t recall hearing any Big Gay spokesperson saying Christians should be executed for their behavior or at least thrown into concentration camps with electrified fences.

  4. Chiroptera says

I’m sure that Fischer decried the effort to boycott JC Penney’s for hiring Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson, right?

  5. slc1 says

Fuckface Fischer is envious of Ahmadinejad who can arrest and jail gays and lesbians in Iran. According to the latter, when queried on this subject during a presentation at Columbia, Un., he responded that gays and lesbians didn’t exist in Iran.

  6. eric says

Same ‘ol same ‘ol; misrepresenting “gays want the right to marry” as somehow preventing straights from marrying or harming straight marriage. Zzzzzz. Too bad that calling bigoted behavior like this ‘banal’ is a bit of a Godwin, because the label ‘banal’ certainly fits. These arguments are old, tired, and tawdry.

I’m sure Big Gay* is perfectly happy to let you be married, have kids, and be happy in your hetero lifestyle. Nobody’s going to bust down your door Monty-Python style and extract your heteorsexuality.

Personally, as fast food goes I think Chick-fil-a does a decent job. I’d rather see the company change its political stance rather than go under.

*Shouldn’t there an “Al” after that? And a boat ride?

  7. d cwilson says

When it comes to Chick-Fil-A, I’m of two minds: Should I boycott them because they support bigot, homophobic, anti-family (take that!) policies or should I boycott them because their food tastes like shit?

As for Fischer, it’s always fun to listen to the intolerant whine about how liberals aren’t tolerant of their intolerance.

That’s IMAX level projection right there.

They claim to be all about diversity, but there is no room in their world for anybody that believes in traditional moral values. They’re absolutely intolerant and they have no room, they’re anti-diversity…

So LGBT having equal rights means that “traditional marriages” will be abolished? This is what really confuses me about these types. Gays do not want to turn you gay. They have no interest in destroying marriage. They just want to be able to have the same opportunities as you do. IT DOES NOT HARM YOU IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM YOU BIGOTED FUCK.

    @d cwilson,

    It’s a win-win, ain’t it? Don’t eat crap. Don’t support crap!

Would that taking a stand was always so easy.

Big Al from South Park immediately came to mind.

  11. DaveL says

They have no tolerance for those who support the institution of the natural family.

Fischer and his ilk do not support the “natural family”. They do not protest actions of the state that separate parents from their children and spouses, whether it be prolonged war overseas or mass incarceration. They do not stand with working families against the erosion of their quality of life for the benefit of a wealthy elite. They offer no opposition to health care policies that make widows, widowers, and orphans.

They do none of these things because they really don’t care about “the natural family.” They merely seek to punish and oppress any family they view as insufficiently “natural.”

  12. unbound says

“I used to think that Fischer was just a garden variety religious hypocrite. At this point, I’m wondering if he’s psychologically incapable of self-awareness.” – schism (#1)

I’m beginning to wonder the same thing. It’s like a schoolyard bully that constantly attacks everyone who is different, and when a couple of the bully’s victims start objecting to being attacked, the bully is claiming that he himself is being bullied? How clueless is this idiot?

  13. says

Here’s a post by JT about just how idiotic Chick-Fil-A has become under the spotli — oops, I mean orchestrated gang-up (gang-bang?) by Big Gay:

    http://freethoughtblogs.com/wwjtd/2012/07/25/chick-fil-a-cant-stop-digging/

Apparently, someone at CFA created a Facebook account, pretended to be a teenage girl (using a stock photo downloaded for free), and tried to convince everyone that CFA had stopped giving away a certain toy weeks before the manufacturer stopped selling it to them to protest CFA’s bigotry. “She” was immediately caught and laughed out of town.

So, yeah, Fisher’s defense of CFA is a match for CFA’s own behavior in terms of maturity.

Yeah dude. I totally know what you mean. I heard Big Gay wants to do the most vicious thing I have ever heard.
They want to stage a kiss-in.
    I mean that’s just monstrous.
Won’t someone think of the kids??!!

  16. kerriet says

Let’s have them run out of chickens, let’s send them out behind the restaurant with an ax to cut the heads off of more chickens

Think of the chickens… Will somebody PLEASE think of the chickens??!?

I’m getting pretty sick of this “natural family” nonsense. This is slightly off topic, but as an adoptee I’ve noticed the PC terms to describe a birthmother change over the years, and I personally never understood why people preferred to use the term “natural mother” to described a birthmother, because what does that make the adoptive mother if she’s not a “natural” mother? What is really “natural”?

How about a “healthy family” instead of the subjective “natural family”? That’s what’s really being threatened in America and a healthy family of today may not fit the definition of that of a single society’s family that existed thousands of years ago as described in just a single book.

  17. Rip Steakface says

I saw the headline, and I immediately envisioned a giant Big Gay Al going all Godzilla on a Chick-fil-a restaurant.

One of two things needs to happen:

    2. Trey Parker and Matt Stone must make this into an episode of South Park.

This is the same argument the Klan uses.

“We don’t hate black people, we’re just promoting the white race.”

And we see right through it the same way.

Being intolerant of intolerance is not being a bully, dumbass.

  20. eric says

Fischer and his ilk do not support the “natural family”. They do not protest actions of the state that separate parents from their children and spouses, whether it be prolonged war overseas or mass incarceration.

You gave me a scary thought: maybe he does. Maybe Fischer likes the thought of warfare going back to the more personal, stone-age variety, where one tribe kills the men, women, and children of the neighboring tribe and keeps their young virgin women as slaves. Maybe he likes the ‘natural family’ idea of children and spouses being forced to remain with their abusers, rather than the abuser being incarcerated.

  21. anteprepro says

They claim to be all about diversity, but there is no room in their world for anybody that believes in traditional moral values. They’re absolutely intolerant and they have no room, they’re anti-diversity

Brilliant. Because gays getting equal rights would offend people who are intolerant towards gays, gays trying to get equal rights is intolerance towards people who are intolerant against gays. Yeah, that argument’s never been used before.

At what dumbfuck wingnut institution do they teach everyone that gay marriage entails that only gay people have a right to marriage? Limbaugh University? Hannity Asylum for the Terminally Stupid?

  22. says

    I’m thinking that:

    “Big GAY, Chick-Fil-A”

has some sort of Busby Berkley possibility, sortlike what Dom DeLuis did in “Blazing Saddles”.

Perhaps Mr. Fischer can make an ad as the spokesfuck for Chick-Fil-A; something like:

“I and my KKKristian friends at CFA just want to ensure that the only buns getting stuffed with meat on our watch are those getting stuffed, by us, on a table in the back room!”

    OT:

But howzabout that young feller in NY who delivered his gay tolerance speech to the city council after his fuckhead principal forbade his doing so at school, that kid has some balls–and he’s only 10 years old.

  23. plutosdad says

The one “little” guy could maybe be the individual franchise owner. In fact, even though I have personally boycotted Chick-Fil-A for over a year now, today I read in the Chicago Tribune today about my local one (in Chicago near the Mag Mile) the owner actually donates to pro gay causes, and she wants to meet with our Mayor to stop the rhetoric so it doesn’t hurt her business. (She claims she donates at least, it was not an investigation).

So I’m not sure what to do. I did like them (as far as fast food chicken they are good).

If enough people boycott, then the franchise owners may pressure the corporate office to stop the donations that are hurting their business. Or, we may just end up hurting regular people. I don’t know. In the meantime, I’ll just keep not going until I figure it out.

  24. baal says

I’m not down with bullying bullies unless that is the sole power you have to use against them. Using power to limit the harms bullies cause is a good-thing ™ and should be done with more consistency than it is.

CFA could fix it’s little PR problem by having the bigot-in-charge sell the company and by stopping its funding of anti-gay efforts. Strikes me that both actions would be good for the business.

I’d comment on Mr. Fishers projection but it’d be redundant. Here’s hoping he’s at least consistent and helps out his cause by choking his chicken (and a few other chickens just for fun).

  25. frog says

Why would Chick-fil-A care? I thought they wouldn’t want (whisper) those people in their stores?

So…gays aren’t fully human, but their money is still good.

Hmmm. Maybe this really explains it: if gays can get married and raise children, then they won’t have as much disposable income to spend at fast food restaurants! Without fast-food restaurants, ALL OF AMERICAN CIVILIZATION WILL FALL. Suddenly it makes sense!

  26. says

Since marriage is a construct of society and differs from one society to another, what the hell is ‘natural marriage’ anyway?
Something that say Chimps or Bonobos do?
    Rabbits??

  27. lofgren says

They have no room in their so-called ‘diversity world’ for people who believe in natural marriage.

No room in diversity world for people who hate diversity.

No room in pizza world for people who hate pizza.

  28. says

    Um …

In response to Google’s recently-announced “Legalize Love” campaign, which supports gay rights throughout the world, the American Family Association’s Buster Wilson encouraged listeners of his radio show to do their best to stop using Google, Right Wing Watch reports. …

As a target of the AFA, Google is in good company. The group, which was founded in 1977, has also targeted Oreo Cookies, JC Penny, Toys ‘R’ Us, The Home Depot, Comedy Central, Urban Outfitters, PepsiCo and DC Comics and Marvel Comics, among others.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/11/american-family-association-google-video_n_1666218.html

I guess that establishes that the AFA is made up of bullies who are intolerant, vicious, mean, and are after the institution of American free enterprise by attacking corporations for doing what they think is best for their bottom lines.

  29. D. C. Sessions says

what the hell is ‘natural marriage’ anyway?

I may have read too much Elizabethan literature in my formative years, but that’s how I interpreted it.

What’s most terrifying is that I don’t think he’s being disingenuous. I think he really believes what he’s saying. That seems far worse than him being a lying sack of crap.

  31. plutosdad says

oh yes many do. If you make fun of them they start “oh we are the most persecuted people, no one knows” they aren’t the ones losing jobs, refusing to be served, getting beaten. Instead, some comedians and politicans make fun of them. And that’s so horrible.

  32. says

It’s at the point that whenever I hear the phrase “traditional marriage,” I think of a certain chapter in Numbers, among other things.

  33. Skeptic Dude says

If this were McDonalds I would absolutely boycott them forever, but since its Chik-Fil-A I will just no longer order chicken biscuits after 10:30 AM and not on Sundays at all.

  34. Sastra says

They are intolerant, they are vicious, they are mean, and they are after people of faith. There’s no ‘live and let live’ with the bullies at Big Gay. They don’t know anything about tolerance. They have no room in their so-called ‘diversity world’ for people who believe in natural marriage. They claim to be all about diversity, but there is no room in their world for anybody that believes in traditional moral values.

I think I can translate this; the key phrase is “people of faith.” Too many religious people seem to think that if a belief is a matter of “faith” then this sets the issue up on a rarified, sanctified plane where people can only agree to disagree. As he said, “live and let live.” Anything else is “intolerance.”

Here is how I think they think the gay community ought to respond to Chick-Fil_A:

“While we do not agree with the company’s stance on gay rights, we understand that people have the right to their beliefs. This is what freedom of religion means: accepting the differences without murmur. We value a diverse world where people can understand and believe in God according to their conscience. Therefore, we would never try to take away anyone’s faith in God, or try to turn them from following God. We would never try to point out flaws or set out an opposing view or _- God forbid — debate. We condemn people who would do so. Yes, we don’t see things eye to eye here — but that is what faith is for! If they are wrong, they are wrong for the right reason: they are trying to live according to their best understanding of God. We can give them nothing but kudos for that — because it is the highest path.”

I guess I assume this is what they think diversity and tolerance among gays regarding ‘natural marriage’ means because I’ve seen this reaction demanded again and again from atheists regarding supernatural God. They don’t seem to get that a mistake made because of faith is if anything WORSE than bad reasoning: there’s no appeal. Arrogance masquerading as humility.

No cookie for them, or Chick-Fil-A.

Wait…is the ACLU seriously now in favor of heterosexual-supremacist corporate policies? I mean, I thought they’d jumped the shark with “Citizens” United — now they’re throwing their weight behind a corporation that spews contempt for anything resembling non-fascist corporate policies?

I might have to start questioning my ACLU membership if they actually start insisting that it’s absolutely legitimate for a devoted theocratic cult to demand that state and local governments pretend that they don’t violate every ethics regulation ever put in place.

I did a search for American Family Association and Boycott. Most results were about the Google Boycott one of their radio hosts propposed a couple of years ago, but after removing those, I came up with Dicks Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Old Navy, Gap, Disney, Barnes and Noble, Office Depot CVS, Staples, Supervalue, Victoria Secret, Ford McDonalds and Banana Republic
It seems pretty mixed – about half are boycotted for being too gay friendly, and the other for not pushing Christ enough at Christmas.

  43. plutosdad says

@46: “pretend that they don’t violate every ethics regulation ever put in place.”

What ethics regulations are they violating? Donating to scum institutions is not an ethics violation. And there is no evidence they practice systemic discrimination against employees or customers. They might be, of course, but they are mostly all franchises, so who knows if the franchise owner agrees or not with the policies of corporate office.

There is only one lawsuit I could find, a muslim who sued after being fired. he claimed it was because he refused to pray with the others. Chick-Fil-A settled with him. But that was the only instance in any papers I could see.

  46. gwangung says

Some of my Chicago friends are telling me that the dispute with Chik-Fil-A started out as a zoning dispute, trying to build a large parking lot in an area that was trying to encourage more pedestrian traffic and less motor traffic.

Not sure how much of this plays into the debate, but it may be true that there are more than just free speech issues here.

  47. says

Some of my Chicago friends are telling me that the dispute with Chik-Fil-A started out as a zoning dispute…

That’s plausible. A lot of these Christian Reich types do try to bully their way out of obeying secular law; and when people start attacking their religious bigotry, that serves to distract attention away from other more mundane issues.
