For my readers in the Chicago and Toledo areas who haven’t seen Brother Sam, your chance is coming soon. He puts on a brilliant show as an old-time atheist evangelist and he’s going to be in Chicago on July 28 as part of the Bughouse Square Debates and in Toledo on August 2 putting on his revival show (which is incredibly funny). Very funny as a comedian’s punchline, but even with a broad selection from which to choose, I remember a tab of sunshine and a pentecostal revival as one of my poorer ideas.

His language, cadence, and body language are spot on. ‘Cept for the speaking in tongues, he could have been describing the Southern Baptist church of my childhood. But I wouldn’t recommend it for entertainment; sitting in a Baptist church is like sitting in traffic court. Maybe if it had had people rolling on the floor and rattlesnakes it would have been more entertaining.
The music was crummy, too.
