You may recall that a couple weeks ago, Alan Chambers, leader of the largest “ex-gay” organization, Exodus International, admitted that those like him who claim to be ex-gay really aren’t, that they are merely suppressing their homosexuality (which he still thinks is a good thing, of course). That has sent many of his fellow wingnuts over the edge. Linda Harvey, one of the most unhinged of all the bigots, is criticizing him for being — wait for it — effeminate:
For Exodus, as a position led by Alan Chambers and he’s not the only one in leadership there that are really misled, for them to pull the plug on kids and just abandon them, this is just the stereotype of men who are not being men, shall I just go there, because that’s what it is. Just don’t defend anything, just let people run right all over you. Well the people running over you are the homosexuals, how ironic is this? How ironic is this that the ones with the real guts are the ones who are the more effeminized or non-masculine males who aren’t embracing their real, God-given masculine identity. But the ex-homosexuals, supposedly, or the leadership there, won’t stand up. Come on, you are our best witness out there. If you won’t stand for this and you will just let kids be corrupted in this way all by buying into this phony notion that in order to have ‘no climate of hate’ in schools you can’t say anything bad about homosexuality; no, to have a ‘no climate of hate’ in schools you need to be telling kids the truth, giving them real hope. I didn’t get to the other issues I was going to cover today but this one is important enough.
I hope folks that you would pray for Exodus, stand up for those people who are disaffiliating from the current regime but maybe they’ll change. Pray that Alan Chambers and the other folks there in leadership with these false and very damaging ideas and this horrendous witness that they are giving to America and to American Christianity will change their heart and come back to the Lord and repent in their own lives, they will stop dishonoring their own families and embarrassing and humiliating and hurting them, come back to the Lord and publicly repudiate all of this and be healed.
Funny, that.

Shouldn’t that be “refudiate”?

How do you fail me? Let me count the ways.
Religiously-dictated gender roles? ✓
Gays as necessarily effeminate? ✓
Derogatory us of effeminacy? ✓
Use of the word refudiate ✕
Meh. Three out of four ain’t bad.

It’s good to know Linda has a plan of action that will get results. Pray some spine into those “girly-men”.
Of course, she fails to realize that it actually took a lot more “spine” on their part to actually admit that what they’d been doing and supporting for years didn’t work and was truly harmful.

IOW: damn those truth-tellers for Jesus! Here we are trying to tell gay kids that we can change who they are attracted to, and these guys screw it all up by pointing out we don’t! Pray that they will either start doing so riteous lying or at least STFU.

She got one thing partly right.
Acting effeminate does take some guts for men, gay or not.

How wonderful to be able to translate “agree with me again” into “coming back to the Lord.” Linda Harvey must be making herself very, very small indeed to allow God to use her as His spokesperson and representative here on Earth.
Because, of course, she can’t just be wrong, can she? God doesn’t make mistakes.

And pedophiles are always going to be pedophiles.
Rapists will always be rapists.
Pricks will always be pricks.
Nobody can change, because Sam Harris has shown we have no free will.

No free will means that nobody can change in a way that defies causality, not that nobody can change at all.

Chambers says that he is still attracted to men, he just suppresses those desires because Jeebus wants him to live in a sterile, sexless marriage to woman.
Harvey says no, you’re wrong, gays had totally change who they are attracted to just by asking Jeebus to do it.
Call me crazy, but I suspect that Chambers might have a better clue as to who is his attracted to than Harvey.

It took way too much work to figure out what Ms Harvey was trying to say. What an incoherent ramble!

“to have a ‘no climate of hate’ in schools you need to be telling kids the truth, giving them real hope.”
Which is exactly what schools are doing when they tell bullies and Christ-junkies to stop harassing the gay kids!

Isn’t this just the addiction model applied to homosexuality. I’m pretty sure the Catholic church embraces that model. Everybody desires to sin, so homosexuals are not unique in that regard. Some people want to fornicate with members of the opposite sex and some people want to fornicate with members of the same sex in the same way that some people lie a lot and others eat pepperoni during Lent. You can never stop being gay just like you can never stop being an alcoholic, but you can curb your sexual behavior just like you can curb your drinking.
If you’re not religious, and do not believe in embracing arbitrary rules in order to please a remote sky spirit, then it’s obvious that the difference between being gay and being an alcoholic is that being an alcoholic ruins people’s lives by its very nature whereas homosexuality only ruins people’s lives if they or their friends and family get all uptight and righteous about it.
But if you are religious, and do believe in changing your behavior to conform to prehistoric superstitions, then this seems like the most coherent and humane possible position on the matter of homosexuality.

I take it Ms. Harvey has never watched a person with same-sex orientation grow up. Especially a person with same-sex orientation who was absolutely not abused. I don’t know how to provide that kind of experience to her. It really makes an impression.

I’m sorry, those look like real English words, or should that be American, nor can I spot any glaring spelling mistakes, lots of random capitalisation or multiple exclamations, but it still looks like gibberish to me. Is she another example of how religion can rot brains or am I missing something because English is, admittedly, my second language.
