Rick Scarborough has organized the latest of many crusades to make America bow down to their twisted theocratic vision, this time calling for “40 Days to Save America.” These crusades are big moneymakers and go back a long way, at least to the America for Jesus rallies put together by Falwell in the early 80s. And this language cracks me up:
We fully understand and are grateful for the fact that America was birthed first in your heart. We acknowledge that America has been a blessed nation above all the nations of the world. Hallelujah!
But we also acknowledge that we have forgotten as a people that it was you and your laws that made this country the land of freedom and opportunity that has been the envy of the world for more than two hundred years. Dear Lord, forgive us of our pride and apathy that has allowed men to call good, evil; and evil, good. We acknowledge that we have grown calloused to the daily deluge of sinful activity, degradation and speaking that has become the routine in American life, and we repent.
Reignite our love for purity and holiness, and create in us a will to initiate the changes in our society that will allow you to once again bless our beloved America.
I think this is the result of the religious right’s favorite ignorance-only sex education, they think things are “birthed” in God’s heart. As Right Wing Watch points out, the endorsers and board members of this effort are a Who’s Who of crazy and stupid.

I like how these guys ignore that fact that since the Bill of Rights, we have ignored the big two of “evil = good”.
We let anyone worship any God they want, in any way they want.

“…that made this country the land of freedom and opportunity that has been the envy of the world for more than two hundred years…”
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
When did America free it’s slaves? Before or after the UK (for instance)?
When did it allow women to vote? When did it have unemployment insurance? Secret Ballots? Industrial Arbitration Courts? Before or after Australia (for example)?
When will American have a decent heath insurance scheme that covers everyone? When will it join the civilised world in banning capital punishment?
and so on -
‘USA – we’re nuber 10!’ What a proud boast.

But those are BAD things. The Bible condones slavery, royalty, capital punishment, and subjugation of women and inferior races. Health insurance isn’t mentioned.

I’m with Dingo. The only thing that “USA #1!!!” holds true for is arrogance.
Exceptionalism is killing America. It’s nothing more than a load of “Well, if something is happening it’s because
AllahGod has willed it”, seasoned with a shitload of prosperity gospel, and served with Dominionism dipping sauce. If people die or become ill that’s God’s will. The poor have no money because that’s what they deserve, and God has favoured the rich and blessed them with wealth.
Everything’s as it should be, and social justice is evil because it’s tampering with God’s will.

Social justice leads to nazism. Glenn Beck said so.
America is currently experiencing the biggest wealth disparity since the Gilded Age, perhaps even in our entire history and the right isn’t even disguising the fact they think that’s the way it should be.

@d cwilson
Did you ever see the episode of the Simpsons where Rainier Wolfcastle was battling the Commie-Nazis? I’m thinking Glenn Beck and his ilk took that as non-fiction, as they conflate the Nazis with socialism and communism in a pungent noun stew.

So god is a woman whose vagina is located inside the heart and she gives birth to countries? Meh, more interesting than the usual immature asshole that they make their god out to be.
So yeah, we need to abolish voting rights for all but landowning
white males, re-enslave all minorities, and get rid of anything else that didn’t exist in the late 1800s and then god will bless us? Yep, now there’s a solution.

“…create in us a will…”
Yeah, because people can’t/don’t have wills of their own to do stuff, they need God to “create” in for them (rolls eyes).

That’s what happens when the Infinite Improbability Drive gets fired up: whole new crazy-assed countries. Be glad that America didn’t end up as a bowl of petunias. Oh, not “Heart of Gold”, oops, misread that.
