Tancredo to Speak at White Supremacist Conference
Former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo may be trading in his business suit for a white robe. He’s going to be addressing the annual conference of one of the oldest and best known racist groups in the country — which is the kind of thing he can do now that he’s out of politics.
Tom Tancredo has no more secrets.
The former Republican congressman from Colorado, known for his biting anti-immigration rhetoric and campaign ads suggesting Latino immigrants are rapists and drug dealers, is scheduled to be the luncheon speaker at next month’s annual conference for the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC). The theme of the conference? “Multiculturalism – the Death of America.”
Sharing the dais with Tancredo will be a rogue’s gallery of the racist right, including James Edwards, who hosts the white nationalist Political Cesspool radio show; Don Black, the former Klansman best known for creating Stormfront.org, the first major Internet hate site; and Leonard Wilson, a longtime segregationist and Alabama commander for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a neo-Confederate group that, like Tancredo, staunchly opposes immigration.
This is not at all surprising.

The only positive aspect to this would be if some of his more clueless supporters apologized for giving him the time of day. That should include Colorado voters and colleagues in the house. I’m not holding my breath.

Or Kouncil of Konservative Kittens if they want to soften their image a little…?

tacitus @#2:
Nah, they’ll just insist that this isn’t proof that he’s really racist.
You know, like how Ron Paul supporters insist that his publishing of a racist newsletter isn’t proof that he’s racist.

Of course he wasn’t a racist when he was in the house, right? This is all a new idea he’s just had.

SPLC has updated the article (in Ed’s original link) saying Tancredo’s PAC told them he will not be speaking at CCC. They don’t specifically say he won’t be attending, but I think we can infer that – if Tommy can’t talk, he ain’t going anywhere! More curiously, they don’t state if he had never planned on going, or changed his mind after the press got wind of it?

Wait a minute, since when is a guy with a name like “Tancredo” ‘white,’ anyway?
I know a lot of racists (like my mom, who is what you’d call an “in theory” white supremacist), and the term they use for people with names like that is “ethnic.” And believe you me, “ethnics” are not white, not exactly, anyway. So how did Tancredo get any cred with these idiots? Are they just using him as a tool? (He’s a total tool, but nevertheless…)

Where was this guy’s district, the deep south of Colorado?

Looks like you just committed the “No True Caucasian” fallacy here. LOL, whatever.
What sort of name is that anyway? I’m guessing Italian.
These guys are pretty cuckoo and their nonreasoning is absurd.
J.T. Ready, an Arizona neo-Nazi killed his girlfriend and her kids for no particular reason. Mederos sounds Latino, since this is Arizona, likely Mexican derived.
Derbyshire, another racist, is married to an Asian.
If they are going to marry and/or live with nonwhite partners, why bother with all the white supremacist garbage anyway? If they are going to go all tribal, at least they could try and keep track of which tribe they are in.

Basically, yes. His district was centered on Colorado Springs, home of Focus On The Family and numerous similar groups. After losing his Presidential bid in 2008, Tommy ran for Governor in 2010 as the Constitution Party candidate, because the GOP nominee wasn’t far right enough. He’s fucking nuts, and an asshole to boot.
And yes, Tancredo is Italian. Which may not have counted as White a generation or two ago, but does today in most people’s minds.

I hope Tancredo announce who he supports for POTUS, Obama or Romney – the suspense is killing me!

Actually, @wscott, his district was south suburban Denver, including some unincorporated areas and part of the school district to which Columbine High School belongs.
Because of redistricting changes and other things, the current Republican occupant of the seat, Mike Coffman, has been primaried (voting tomorrow) and could very well be out on his ear come November.

No, Tancredo’s district did not include the Springs. It included the southern suburbs of Denver and Castle Rock, which for reasons I have never understood is one of the wealthiest places in the country. Why this district should be filled with racist douchenozzles is beyond me. Although it probably includes a large number of rural voters

I stand corrected! I don’t know how I got it in my head that he was from the Springs. Thanks for straightening me out.

“I stand corrected! I don’t know how I got it in my head that he was from the Springs. Thanks for straightening me out.”
Considering that he’s a spittle flecked exclusionary racist the confusion is not only understandable but almost inevitable.
