John Hagee has always been one of the most hateful and unhinged of the Christian megapastors. Here he is ranting to his followers about evil atheists, telling us to leave the country because we “won’t be missed.” He also wants Congress to outlaw witchcraft in the military “lest we offend the God of heaven.”
I cannot confirm that the title of his sermon was Red Meat for Morons.

Nah, we won’t be missed, as in the recent video. Just a large chunk of the scientists, writers, doctors, professors gone. Hagee might find himself in the top third IQ-wise for once.
The prison population would be virtually unchanged by our departure, of course.

@Randomfactor:
The departure of a huge swath of scientists, writers, doctors, and professors is a feature, not a bug, to people like Hagee.

Ah, then he knows about the other gods, the ones not in heaven. About time they received some acknowledgement.

The gods not in heaven? The ones on earth who can actually have an effect on the real world?

Christianity does witchcraft a service by teaching the populace that there is such a thing, and that it works.

If witchcraft really worked, the US military and spy services would have divisions of sorcerors, witches, mages, and warlocks and be searching the US for more.
The witches would own Wall Street.
Every hospital would employ some healers at a very good salary.
Most politicians would have a witch or two on staff.
I really don’t think most xians believe most of this gibberish. They say they do but they don’t act like they do.

Hagee FWIW is one of the more obvious sociopathic fundie xian leaders.
He just says whatever pops into his head without worrying too much about whether it is true or even makes coherent sense.
And why should he? He makes millions of dollars doing his standup hate act.
Can’t say I’m too impressed with 21st century xianity. Hagee just reflects the hate and lies of his audience back at them and gets paid well for it.

Which would be totally awesome.
The CIA and the Pentagon did spend millions trying to use psychics for intelligence work. It was eventually shut because (surprise, surprise) it yield no tangible results.

Ed Brayton,
Has Hagee ever even read the first amendment? Also, respecting one’s right to practice their religion, is far from officially endorsing it. Congress wouldn’t have the authority or the right to ban the practice of any faith, including in the U.S military. The fact that he doesn’t seem to understand that tolerance is not the same thing as endorsement, might at least in part explain why he doesn’t support the Separation of Church and State.

Two thoughts struck me while watching that nonsense:
1. His congregation is as obese as he is (mind you, this is Texas we’re talking about, so that’s no real surprise).
2. When seeing them getting unquestioningly to their feet in (less than) rapturous applause every time he tosses them a little red meat, it puts me in mind of those old, Soviet politburo speeches you used to see out of Soviet Russia. Right wing Americans seem to be completely oblivious of such things, however.

I have little doubt that Hagee understands the distinction perfectly fine. But (a) it doesn’t suit is purposes to acknowledge that distinction and (b) he will tell you that the founders only meant the First Amendment to apply to the various denominations within Christianity, not to all religions. Alternatively he may tell you that Satanism and Wicca (witchcraft) are not religions at all and thus do not deserve any protection under the First Amendment.
Of course, Hagee has zero interest in the truth in this matter. He rules his own little kingdom with a level of authoritarianism and power that many heads of state would be jealous of, and thus he has no reason to listen to anyone who would seek to correct him.

And what was the purpose of this thought? If there was any point to saying this besides body-shaming and making fun of the South, you failed to communicate it.
There’s plenty of pure stupid wrongness there to aim at. You don’t have to take potshots at morally neutral qualities that also occur among the good guys.

Well, I’ve lived in Texas for over 15 years, and was clinically obese for a few years in my past — still 20lbs overweight now — so I’m hardly the one to throw stones now am I?
I used to watch Hagee occasionally (for yucks) when I first came to Texas and was always fascinated by the contrast between his authoritarian condemnation of all types of “sinful behavior” and his morbidly obese frame, as if gluttony was somehow exempted. (Sure he could have a thyroid condition, but really, what are the odds?)
I guess there is also the stereotype of the “fat, dumb, and happy” I could be playing into, but honestly, I didn’t really think anything beyond what I typed — that the people shown on the screen were as rotund as he is. And given that the BBC went out of their way to film a documentary about Houston being the fattest city in America (a few years back), then it should come as no surprise that my home state is up there when it comes to putting on the pounds.

This sounds vaguely familiar I can think of another country who thought that a certain group of people wouldn’t be missed that constituted the majority of the scientific community. It eventually cost them the war.

Our coins say in god we trust…But that was not added to the coinage until 1863. Apparently we didn’t trust god with our money until that time. It should be noted that “Liberty” has been part of every US coins except one, the flying eagle cent.

With all the applauding and standing ovations I see a picture of Hagee the rock star.
All that adoration, how far down the chain of command does Hagee think he is from Yahweh?
I have an experiment I’d like to try on Hagee and other spittle flecked men-o’-god. Replace the adoring audience with actors who sit quietly no matter what Hagee perorates. The point is to see if Hagee’s rhetoric will sink to the point of opprobrium in his followers. Is there anything Hagee can say that is sick or twisted enough to cause his minions to glance at each other uneasily and walk away?

What gets me is that there is this common thought that non-believers are offended that others “believe”. I personally don’t care one bit if you do or not. The problem that I have is when you try to enforce beliefs that you pick and choose as rule of the land. I also have a very real problem when you try to re-define science, history, and other topics as you see fit. It’s not your belief that is offensive, it’s what you do with it.

@14: Robert, gluttony is one of The Seven Deadly Sins, so in that context, the comment from tacitus that you are responding to is (mildly) defensible (IMHO, anyway).

Nice try but you neglected an important fact. The 7 deadly sins are a Catholic thing. Hagee hates Catholics!!!
Guy is just sort of a wind up hate robot. IIRC, he hates Mormons too.
I don’t think hate is on their list of sins either. In fact, it is one of the fundies three main sacraments, hate, lies, and hypocrisy.

An exodus of all atheists from America would be interesting if they all settled somewhere together and formed the first true atheist society. We would probably see the collapse of one superpower (USA) and the birth of the a new one.

If witchcraft really worked, the military would have elite units of witches, warlocks, mages, and sorcerors, all with high ranks.
The witches would own Wall Street.
Hogwarts would be equivalent to Harvard.
