David Silverman and Blair Scott from American Atheists have received death threats by both email and voice mail recently that are serious and disturbed. They’ve been turned over to the police, who should have little difficulty tracking down the person who sent them.
“the minute you [Blair] step to speake, a 30 30 round will be put in your head, and then you will meet the satan and demons of hell that you do not believe in……………..dave however, will be taken and tortured for weeks till he crys out for ‘god’ to save him”
From the voice mail:
“If you [Blair] or Dave ever email me again, I will hunt you down like a bloodhound, tie you to a tree and torture you for weeks… damn f*ing [edited] atheists…”
He was getting email because he signed up on our web page as a user in order to stalk Dave and Blair. He has posted on their online videos, etc.
Yes, he actually signed up for email updates, then said he would kill them if they kept sending him email. This person needs to be in jail.

Yeah he needs to be in jail but he won’t be.
If the gestapo even tried to nail him they’d be overwhelmed by witnesses as to what a good Christian he is.
Its all part of the Kulture of Killers for Khrist.

Hope this guy gets psychiatric help. He’s certainly not worthy of keeping any firearms he actually has.
Terroristic threats.

Routine.
The FBI has gotten a lot more active in arresting death threaters. Which is a felony.
This seems to have happened after Gabrielle Giffords was shot and after a lot of politicians starting getting repetitive death threats from people who seemed mentally unbalanced.
There are a fair number of people in prison for death threats. It’s really a dumb thing to do.

What’s really messed up is that some of these morally bankrupt believers issuing these threats would likely try to hide behind “freedom of speech” when threatened with legal action. Their hypocrisy is astounding.

I snerked at the headline in the article: “American Atheists leaders receive death threats serious enough to warrant police attention”. The qualifier “serious enough to warrant police attention” suggests that casual death threats against atheists don’t warrant police attention. I wonder what the publishers of that site would consider “casual” threats against them. (Of course I’m not going to perform any experiments. I could be taken seriously!) I wonder if they are even aware of the implications of their wording.

Most non-profits get death threats. I’m familiar with the background noise of threats that women centers, GLBT and some research labs get. The workers and police usually ignore the one offs which use really vague or general language. When the same threat is repeated or the violence threat is really specific, it sets off the warning bells.

“the minute you [Blair] step to speake, a

The sad part is that if Silverman or Scott responded in kind, the police would move about a thousand times more quickly.

Except for the insane, homicidal part it sort of sounds like a message from my Dad. “I signed up to this newsletter now the damned thing is emailing me! The internet is broken! How do I copy and paste again?”

gratch about the oldsters:
The best one I helped out with was showing someone a feature who’d been using a computer for about 10 years. That was the existence of scroll bars so users could scroll down the page.
I was little torn since this person was one of the people I knew who believed all the conservative viral emails and loves Glen Beck. So I was essentially enabling them to learn more about how President Obama was a Manchurian-like candidate from al Qaeda and therefore should be either impeached or assassinated (not hyperbole, they were promoting this meme).

That’s easy to fix: Just tell them that scroll bars are a liberal conspiracy to track their interests in various subjects. The more you scroll, the more interested you are in the subject, and the closer the ‘gubmint’ will watch you. They’ll never scroll again. Just don’t tell them about the arrow keys.
