Olbermann, Get Over Yourself

Man, Keith Olbermann must have the thinnest skin of any man alive not named Bill Donohue. Jimmy Kimmel made a couple jokes at his expense at the White House correspondent’s dinner last weekend and he threw a little mini-tantrum over it on Twitter. What Kimmel said:

“I’d like everyone to look under your seats,” he joked. “Under each one you will find a copy of Keith Olbermann’s resume. Is Keith here tonight? Limo wouldn’t pick him up?”

He also said that Olbermann “burned more bridges than the arsonist of Madison County” and “has more pink slips than Marcus Bachmann.”

And Olbermann’s humorless response:

“Funny that Jimmy Kimmel ripped me after his people desperately wanted me to fly to LA to be on his show this past Wednesday,” Olbermann tweeted on Saturday night.

He added: “I’m not complaining about the Kimmel jokes — I’m fair game. I’m complaining about the revenge element. It reminds me of O’Reilly.”

Really, Keith? You’re a famous guy who has been in the news lately. And you’re surprised that a late-night comedian would both invite you on his show and make fun of you too? Did you just get a television last week? Get over yourself.

Now, now. I’m sure that folks named Fa*arman, O’Bri*n, and Brende*uehl are convinced that Mr. Brayton is also thin skinned. End snark.

Typical that Mr. Brayton makes fun of Keith Olbermann’s thin skin but completely fails to comment on the thin skin of my neighbor Mrs. Kowalski. This is further evidence that Mr. Brayton is unfairly picking on Mr. Olbermann and also fully supports Mrs. Kowalski’s claim that the patch of grass under the maple tree between our properties is my responsibility to mow. Mr. Brayton should be ashamed of himself.

K.O. was so much better on Sportscenter. Minus the mullet and mustasche.

I wasn’t incredibly impressed with Kimmel’s routine, but I thought the Marcus Bachmann joke was perfect.

@#4: So glad to see someone agree with me on that: the host last year absolutely killed! It was a much better roast.

Well, he’s up there. But I’d nominate Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh above both where O’Reilly and , if you’d referred to people rather than men, Sarah Palin, are in their own league.

    Ugh.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Olbermann has said and done some good things but the man SERIOUSLY needs to grow up. If you’re going on the warpath every single time a comedian mocks you then you are not helping the causes you endorse.

I remember very clearly the night when someone compared him to Rush Limbaugh in passing and he completely exploded and dedicated his “Worst Person in the World” for comparing a left-wing pundit with a right-wing pundit. Now Olbermann I would place well above Limbaugh but you do yourself no good at setting yourself apart form a self-gratifying petty gloryhound when you yourself come across as a self-gratifying petty gloryhound.

I guess what I’m saying is that if Keith Olbermann got over himself it would be a very good thing indeed.

    @Michael Heath:

Olbermann and O’Reilly are a tie, IMHO. That’s what made their rivalry so interesting. O’Reilly couldn’t stand anyone so much as mentioning Olbermann’s name in his presense while Olbermann never passed up an opportunity to rip on O’Reilly, no matter how petty.

  9. Midnight Rambler:

I feel like the point where Olbermann jumped the shark was around 2007 when he started taking O’Reilly seriously (and putting him in practically every “Worst Person” segment) instead of laughing at him.

Also, Obama has been far funnier than the comedians for the past two years at least (didn’t see 2009 or 2010).

  10. Improbable Joe:

Content-wise, Olbermann is better than his right-wing peers. Personality-wise? I’m not so sure that he’s not actually much worse.

  11. left0ver1under:

It was sad to see Olbermann’s downward spiral. He hit a highwater mark where he started speaking what he though and could say anything, but not go over the edge as if he were untouchable. Then he got the big contract and the big head.
