Glenn Beck Revises His Own History
Glenn Beck loves historical revisionism, but now he is revising his own history. He told James Robison that the real reason he left Fox News was because God told him that if he didn’t leave, he would lose his soul.
Beck rose to prominence with his emotional, stream-of-consciousness invectives aimed at the left and President Barack Obama. But it was these kinds of warnings that drove him off of the cable airwaves, said the Rev. James Robison, a televangelist and founder of Life Outreach International.
“The primary reason that he left is because they were not comfortable with him talking about God and Jesus as often and as freely as he did,” said Robison, who participated in Beck’s presentation.
On the day he decided to leave, Beck said he walked up to a floor-to-ceiling window in his New York apartment and asked his wife, “How could this possibly be God’s plan?”
“As I stood there, the Lord whispered to me, ‘If you do not leave now, you will lose your soul,’” Beck said. “It was the easiest decision I’ve ever made.”
Funny, at the time he said that he wasn’t leaving the network at all but was only ending his daily show while continuing to produce other shows for Fox:
Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, Glenn Beck’s production company, are proud to announce that they will work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties. Glenn intends to transition off of his daily program, the third highest-rated in all of cable news, later this year.
So back then it was ending one show to continue working for the company on other projects; now he had to leave because of a prophetic warning from God. Hey, whatever makes the rubes clap and cry.

Further corroboration that he’s certainly lost his mind.

Remember kids, it’s very important to get syphillis treated with antibiotics at the first sign of symptoms.

Mr. Beck has a very poor view of his fans if the thinks he can tell them bold face lies. He has decided how he wants his bio to read and he just assumes that those how have been following him don’t remember the recent past or will swallow what ever he says.

I’m assuming that by that time it was too late for the lord to worry about him losing his mind.

The bit about “confabulation” in PZ’s otherwise unrelated Near-Death rehash post seems relevant.
There’s probably better, more detailed, and more technical sources out there. As usual, Wikipedia’s entry on confabulation may be a lousy stopping point but looks like a decent starting point.

Funny that God didn’t warn Beck about losing his soul before he (Beck) started at Fox News.
Plus, were I talking to someone, and God just butted into the conversation uninvited, I think I’d be a little irate.

While I don’t for an instant believe that this was a warning from God, would anyone say that it’s even a little wrong? Look at the others who’ve been at Fox for a long time, such as Hannity and/or O’Reilly. Do they actually act as though they still possess souls? Have either of them had a mirror on their sets with them in the last few years? I expect shows giving cooking tips on how to prepare brains any time now.

At the same time Fox was telling Beck he was losing his show, God was telling him he was losing his mind. It’s only natural he would get confused.

No No Subbie, Glenn Beck I think is completely in control of his own faculties. That’s why I believe he’s a force for evil in the world.
Okay that’s probably needlessly provocative but I seriously think that every thing Glenn Beck does or says is entirely to benefit Glenn Beck. Beck revises history to say he left Fox because of being called by god because the people he’s selling fear to will accept it and further enrich Glenn Beck.

Confabulation is the word of the week! Rolls of the tongue quite nicely and explains conservatives memory issues when it comes to reality. Only problem is I’m not sure what’s causing the mass loss of consciousness in the first place.

Nope, not buying it, especially considering how FOX News has never found a right-wing Christian they didn’t bend over backwards for.

Glennie Bek reminds me, just a little bit, of Jon Lovitz doing his “Liars’ Club” routine on SNL, but Lovitz was funny where Bek is just pathetic.

It hadn’t occurred to me before, but there is something similar there. I do think Beck knowingly and deliberately lies with reckless disregard for the social consequences. He’s like a proud, deliberate polluter of political discourse.

Maybe god meant for Glennie to leave throught the window in front of him.
God’s never been good with giving clear instructions.

As soon as I hear the phrase, “god told me”, my eyes glaze over.
God talks to millions of people. And tells each and every one of them contradictory things. Although it always seems to be what they want to hear anyway. God told Bachmann, Perry, Satanorum, and Cain to run for the GOP nomination. All of whom promptly failed.
It’s total nonsense.
Besides, god told me that. Really. And BTW, he told me he wants all of you to send me money to do his will. US currency is perfectly acceptable. God also told me he hates the IRS. LOL.
