The first episode of Culture Wars Radio debuted on Tuesday. Here’s a link to the show page on the WPRR website, where you can download or listen to it. By the way, now taking suggestions for next week’s long distance dedication. Last week I used the suggestion of 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover for Newt Gingrich. Leave suggestions in the comments.

Didn’t Fred Karger run in 2008 as well?

“Torn Between Two Lovers” would have been good for Newt, too. If you could stand to listen to that horrific dreck, or inflict it on your listeners. I’m pretty sure that was the worst song of the 70s.
I suck at this sort of thing, though. What I do know is that most of what’s wrong with the Republican party these days is that someone needs to lock them in a room and bombard them with some old school R&B until they lighten the hell up.
So I’d dedicate Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” to the Republicans.

Just remembered a song that sometimes runs through my head when Santorum vomits up his nonsense:
King of the World–Steely Dan (from Countdown to Ecstasy).

How about Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” for Rick Santorum? He seems to think that we don’t need no (college) education.

BTW, I’m only 30 minutes in, but I’m loving the show so far. Will you be making it available on iTunes as a podcast anytime in the future?

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd going out to all the work-a-day citizens who have bought into the agitprop put forth by the neocons even though it is against their own best interests.
To put it another way; the lazy ignorant who prove Erich Fromm’s thesis he put forth in his book ‘Escape From Freedom’ (1942) that thinking for one’s self is difficult and most would rather follow a strong leader than use their mental abilities to find their own way.

Seriously, your interview with Ellery Schempp is great, and I especially love the discussion of great teachers that influenced you each. (As a teacher, I love stories of inspiring teachers and hope that there are students that I can have a similar impact on.)
I do sort of wish that you had called Fred Karger on his statement blaming the Democrats for pushing people like Strom Thurmond to the Republicans. The Democrats are to blame for not being racist enough for the Dixiecrats? That’s just bullshit. Blame the Dixiecrats for deciding that the Republican Party would become the party through which they would consolidate power in the South, not the Democrats for refusing to let them do it with their party.

Another Hall & Oates tune for Rick Santorum. “Family Man”
“I said leave me alone, I’m a family man, and my bark is much worse than my bite!”

Given the war drums beating every time Iran got mentioned during the last debate, I can’t help but suggest Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World, dedicated to Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich.
Alternately, there’s the Ron Paul comedy option: Shirley Bassey – Goldfinger.

I gotta go with Van Halen’s “Runnin’ With the Devil” for Santorum. “The Devil Inside” by INXS would work too, although I don’t like that tune as much. I look forward to hearing the show.
