Dispatches from the Culture Wars

Welcome Libby Anne

We have another new blog at FTB, Love Joy Feminism. Libby Anne has an amazing story, having been raised as part of the Quiverfull movement, a staunchly fundamentalist Christian group that believes in outbreeding non-Christians — in essence, turning women into nothing more than breeding machines.

One of the things I’m really hoping to do with the few spots we have left at FTB for new blogs is bring on folks who have freed themselves from different religions — ex-Mormons, ex-Scientologists, ex-Muslims, and so forth. Several of us are ex-Christians, but Libby Anne really writes from her experiences in that regard more than most of us do.

I’m sure if the right opportunities arose, you could pull a ‘loves and fishes’ routine.

I wonder if, with so many bloggers here, it would make sense to use some wordpress plugins to show some reader/editor/featured picks in the sidebar, or something along those lines like scienceblogs had. I feel guilty that I simply don’t have to time to browse through your many fine writers, maybe something like that would give us a chance to get a taste across the board, while exposing all of your writers to a higher visibility spot on the page at least occasionally.

FTB not only brought together all but one of the blogs I used to visit regularly (the 5th was Fred Clark over on Slacktivist) but has since introduced me to a whole range of very very excellent bloggers. This place just keeps getting better.

What Mr. Brayton needs to do is prevail upon Michael Heath to join the parade.

I you want an ex-Muslim, I would suggest trying to steal Heina from Skepchick. (Unless that would cause bad blood.)

  6. Ed Brayton says:

Oh, we certainly wouldn’t try to steal anyone from our friends at Skepchick.
