Robert O’Brien Nominee: Sher Zieve

If you’re looking for your daily dose of serious right wing insanity, Sher Zieve has you covered. This is so batshit crazy that it would make Glenn Beck cringe:

Are you as tired as am I about the talking heads — leftists, RINO and faux conservatives — advising us on an almost daily basis that “If we don’t stop it (presumably the government, Obama and maybe even Obama’s sycophant Congress) we’re heading for ‘European-style Socialism.'” Ahhh…as if that were the only thing about which we have to worry. Of course, the truth is that the [former] USA is not heading for Euro-Socialism. Instead, it is careening at full speed — with no discernable braking — into full-fledged Marxist Communo-Fascist elitist-ruled Islamo-Drug cartel Narco/Nazi State — replete with its own apparent and visible concentration camps. Said State has been meticulously planned over, at least, decades and is now being forcefully implemented against We-the-People who seem to have been replaced by “We-the-Sheeple.”

Actually, you’ve been replaced by You-the-Lunatic.

Are conservative columnists engaged in some kind of competition to see who can cram the most scare words into one phrase?

…I have to find a way to work that into a sentence.

Ed describes what follows from Sher Zieve:

This is so batshit crazy that it would make Glenn Beck cringe . . .

When I got to this point I assumed, “nah, what follows will most likely just motivate Beck to up his game”. Instead what’s quoted in this blog post of Mr. Zieve has me perceiving no dissimilarity to what Mr. Beck was asserting on his Fox News show. Beck also saw Marxism, Nazis, and concentration camps.

Decades? That means more than one, right?

So, going back to 1990, Democrats have held the presidency for 11 years, the Repuglicans for 10.

Going back to 1980, Democrats have held the presidency for 11 years, the Repuglicans for 20.

Going back to 1970, Democrats have held the presidency for 15 years, the Repuglicans for 26.

So, assuming his batshit crazy rantings have any merit at all, who, precisely, is responsible for this state of affairs?

  5. freemage says

Michael: Did he ever talk about Obama working for the narco-cartels, though? That’s a new one on me.

I want to hear “Marxist Communo-Fascist elitist-ruled Islamo-Drug cartel Narco/Nazi State” in German. Big pormanteau words just sound more impressive in German, don’t they?

Wait, where’s the atheistic pope? Where’s emperor? Where’s Sado, where’s the Illuminati?

And who the hell is Sher Zieve? It’s off to Wikipedia I go.

  8. had3 says

hmmm, the only group w/the time and resources to plan and implement this decade long process would seem to be the ultra-rich. So Sher is saying she supports the 99%’ers? Good for her.

A great name for a rock band, by the way. Probably won’t fit on the CD cover, though.

Conservapedia, that batshit imitation of actual knowledge, has a bio in Zieve. Lifted from there:

her commentary contains a fair amount of sarcasm

That doesn’t explain the stupidity but it does add to the humor.

I don’t know how that’s any crazier than Ron Paul’s newsletters and direct mail missives from the 90s. (And even if the former may not have been written by him, the latter bear his explicit signature).

The popularity of the concentration camp fantasy is fascinating to me. For people whose aggressive impulses are overwhelming, increased guilt and the expectation of retaliation are normal reactions. This is the basic paranoid dynamic. So I wonder how much the fantasy of concentration camps is generated by a vague expectation of retaliation for aggressive urges.

Psychologically, the expectation of retaliation is a precursor to more mature guilt. And punishment isn’t just an expectation; it can also alleviate psychological distress arising from fears of retaliation and guilt. If you’re punished, the need of the other to punish will be reduced, the unconscious thinking would go. Instead of living with a sense of foreboding, punishment expiates the “badness.”

This is what’s so appealing about the religious scapegoat as a container for badness. There is an attempt to transfer the badness to the goat where it can be limited and destroyed without personal harm. But that’s only a partial solution because people still know the reality of their own badness, and they live with a sense of guilt and a need for some punishment before they can feel they’ve completely atoned. In short, besides looking for containment, the guilty seek an atoning penalty. So I wonder if the concentration camp fantasy is both a limiting container and a penalty for the bad in them. But even this is only partial relief because it’s still a fantasy. So the guilty who don’t come to terms with their own bad impulses behave rather madly, living in emotional vicious circles and a vicious world, constantly generating fantasies of containers, scapegoats and penalties that continuously fall short of bringing them total relief. They can’t be talked out of any of this rationally or with evidence because much of this supported by unconscious, non-rational activity that is governed by rules of association rather than logic.

This container/penalty idea is thought to underlie the need of some criminals to be caught: someone stop me [and jail me] before I kill [again]. I guess it could apply to the hockey penalty box too. It’s not enough to sit it out on the bench; the player needs to be penned up while they pay up. The implications for Judaism and Christianity are pretty obvious. I think this is also why we see in the confluence of punitive conservatism and religious fundamentalism, an overdetermined madness that is unresponsive to reason or evidence.

  14. d cwilson says

You’re over thinking it, Dr X. The real answer is much simpler: They assume that Obama is about to send everyone who disagrees with him to concentration camps because that’s exactly what they would do if they had the power.

  15. says

    Dr. X:

The popularity of the concentration camp fantasy is fascinating to me. For people whose aggressive impulses are overwhelming, increased guilt and the expectation of retaliation are normal reactions. This is the basic paranoid dynamic.

Along similar lines, after the latest episode in the Joe Arpaio saga, I came to the conclusion that the defining characteristic of the fascistic impulse is the inversion of the aggressor/victim relationship. It was entirely predictable, for example, that Arpaio would claim to be the victim after he was called out for his crimes. If ever he had allowed himself to think differently, he would have questioned his atrocious behavior.

And at the risk of going Godwin, I’ve often been dumbfounded at how the Nazis, in their missives to each other, would in all seriousness claim to be the victims of Jewish conspiracies long after the Jews had been shipped off to the camps. It’s one thing to have held that the Jews were responsible for Germany’s problems before the war, but to maintain that belief going into 1944 required an amazing degree of self-deception.

The predecessor to concentration camps was sometimes (frequently? my knowledge of history is bad) ghettoization.

Think Levittown as ghetto. Then think of Terezin. This has been in development for a long time.

Sher Zieve is weapons-grade wacky, so imagine my fascination at finding an even crazier person in her comments. I recounted my descent into the rabbit-hole of crazy-squared in a blog post. It seems that Ed’s blog is not even six degrees separated from neutron-star-dense wackiness.
