The Worldnutdaily has their usual bit of empty mudslinging at what should be a very welcome development, the fact that NBC is now going to work with ProPublica to produce news content for their networks. And the criticism is based on no substance all, only the fact that ProPublica gets funding from — gasp! — liberals.
NBC-owned television stations in cities across the nation just teamed up with a nonprofit “journalism” group funded by a billionaire husband-and-wife team who not only spent millions campaigning for President Obama but also topped donor lists to groups such as ACORN and MoveOn.org.
The nonprofit, ProPublica, will contribute to the news operations of all NBC-owned-and-operated stations, including those in such cities as Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia, the network announced Monday.
The NBC affiliates will get early access to investigative reports from ProPublica, which describes itself as an “independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest.”
This should be cheered. ProPublica is a phenomenal news organization that does really, really good work. They’ve won the Pulitzer Prize the last two years and the awards were well-deserved. The first one was for the story they broke about patients being euthanized at a New Orleans hospital after Hurricane Katrina. None of this is even mentioned by the Worldnutdaily, nor do they attempt to dispute the accuracy of even a single article ProPublica has ever done. For them, it is enough that they apply the label “liberal” to the group.
ProPublica was founded with a $10 million yearly grant from Herbert and Marion Sandler, the former chief executives of the Golden West Financial Corporation, which was one of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders and savings and loans.
Just before the financial crisis, the Sandlers in 2008 sold their business to the Wachovia Corporation for about $26 billion, a deal which valued their personal shares at about $2.4 billion.
The Sandlers are major donors to the Democratic Party and are top funders of ACORN, MoveOn.org, the American Civil Liberties Union, Human Rights Watch and other far-left groups.
Well gosh, then, it shouldn’t be difficult to show all the inaccurate reporting they’ve done over the last few years, right? Right? Nope, not a peep about it. Substance doesn’t matter, only labels do. Meanwhile, have you ever seen WND criticize Fox News because Rupert Murdoch has given millions to the Republican party and to conservative causes? Of course not.
I suspect the real problem they have with ProPublica is that they do actual journalism, as opposed to the godawful propaganda that the Worldnutdaily pumps out on a daily basis.
