Crazed bigot Peter LaBarbera interviewed even more crazed bigot Scott Lively on his radio show recently and they jointly declared that gay people are desperate to take over society completely so they can force everyone to become gay. Seriously.
LaBarbera: It’s the only issue of which there is no issue where there is no influence at all from the older to the younger, right Scott? Lively: The things that they scream about the loudest are the things that are the most true and the most damaging to them. The connection between homosexuality and AIDS, the connection between homosexuality and pedophilia, the recruitment of children, not just children but everyone they can get their hands on into the homosexual lifestyle, and the desire of the movement to achieve power.
…
LaBarbera: They are all about demonizing Christians like us, especially Christians, there’s always a special hatred for the Christians, and so like you said Scott, ‘anything it takes,’ it’s a utilitarian movement.
Lively: And the question is, why? Why do they do this? Because we stand in the way of their pursuit of the complete control of society. This isn’t about tolerance, it’s not acceptance, it isn’t even about accepting all things gay; this is about absolute control. And every place that they got it, and they do have it in some places, they use it, and they punish anyone who disagrees with them and then they begin controlling every person within their grip.
I always laugh at the idea that gay people want to turn everyone gay. I have lots and lots of gay friends and not one of them has ever even suggested that I should become gay. You can’t make anyone gay any more than you can make them straight, for crying out loud.

Maybe he said that gay people want to make everybody gay in some other part of the interview? Because the quoted section does not say that.

I see a lot of paranoia in the GOP about the whole gay rights thing. With that said, anyone interested in a free society has to be concerned with concerned with the fringe of the movement that seems to want disagreement with the lifestyle criminalized. Look at Canada where pastors can be arrested for preaching against homosexuality. To ignore this dangerous fringe of the movement is irresponsible.

I’m still scratching my head over “it isn’t even about accepting all things gay…” What the heck are ‘gay ‘ things?

“the recruitment of children, not just children but everyone they can get their hands on into the homosexual lifestyle”
Somehow I doubt they mean ‘homosexual lifestyle’ as just some swanky new dance club.

Just the other day I got a snazzy brochure in the mail offering me a free 30 day trial of the gay lifestyle. I was seriously considering it but now I realize that the “gays” have taken over for the Illuminati and are secretly controlling everything.

I dunno, I see a difference between “the recruitment of everyone they can get their hands on” and “trying to turn everybody gay.” I guess the latter interpretation is not entirely unfair, but that’s not how I read it.

It makes more sense if you skip his meandering:
So what do you think they mean by lifestyle? Me, whenever I’ve heard them talking about “homosexual lifestyle”, it always sounds like they’re really saying, “Lots of hard, sweaty boys buttfucking”.
But that’s just me.

35 years ago, I tended bar in a gay bar. I’m straight, and I got many suggestions like, “everybody has a time and a place, dear, and yours will come,” and “the only reason you don’t like is you haven’t tried it — yet.” But every time they patted me on the butt, literally or metaphorically, they dropped a buck on the bar. In general, gays don’t tip bartenders as much as straight men, but they came after me like a straight man goes after a woman bartender. I was flattered but never succumbed.
Then they fired me, because they wanted a gay bartender. I thought (not seriously) about taking it to the NLRB, but I really didn’t want to work where I wasn’t wanted.

Ed, so your feelings aren’t hurt that the gays aren’t disappointed that you don’t want to have sex with them?

Mr Lively, please show us on the map where these “some places” are, and tell us – in exciting, excruciating detail – whom they punished, and how!

I don’t know about “gay” objects, but for activities, I’ve heard one assertion. During a session of Popular First Person Shooter I spent a lot of time ambushing people coming around blind corners. For some reason, all the 12 year olds with headsets felt the need to inform me that “camping is gay.”

If there’s one group who really would like to turn everyone in this country toward their “lifestyle”, it’s certainly LeBarbera and his cohorts. I think they would readily admit that they are trying to create a 100% Christian society, and they see nothing wrong with that. Yet they excoriate homosexuals whom they believe are, in their lurid, fevered imaginations, attempting to do the same thing.
Seriously, that’s some weapons-grade projection they are engaging in.

Have these fucking bigots ever actually hung out with gay people before? If they had they could not possibly maintain the level of hatred that we see. One good thing is that anybody who has actually spent time with gay people are never going to have their minds changed by these idiots, but people who do listen to these dickheads who finally do end up having to interact with a gay person will see the bullshit immediately and hopefully start to question everything these fucktards say.

It’s the gay borg! You will be assimilated!
Well based on the gay people I’ve met and the quality of life they lead, the homosexual lifestyle is looking pretty good. Unfortunately, to be a fully fledged member you actually have to be gay.

I’ll bet Lively was really excited to get interviewed by LaBarbera. LaBarbera, that macho, gay-bashing Christian. All rough and tough, thrusting feverish, sweaty rhetoric at gays, ramming home the message. What a man! A man’s man!
I wonder if Lively asked for 2 card keys when he checked into his hotel?

Gee, I’ve worked at a PrideFest, gone to gay bars, and partied with gay and lesbian friends, and no one tried to recruit me at all. Sad face. Maybe all those times weren’t during the recruitment drives? /sarc/

Peter LaBarbara responds via Twitter:
I would like to know precisely how gays are “punishing” anyone. Please tell me that the word doesn’t refer to the practice of telling people who insist on equating homosexuality to pedophilia or AIDS that they are full of shit. Because that ain’t punishment, and it’s not something done by gays. That’s called correction, and it’s done by anyone with half a brain.

Funny how La Barbera and Lively seem to not notice that a lot of gays consider themselves to be Christians and attend church.
The connection between homosexuality and AIDS
Yes, the gay community was hit very had by AIDS in the 80′s and early 90′s. And in response, they got together to set up foundations for aiding those who were infected by HIV or who had loved ones who were dying or who had died from AIDS, lobbying for treatments for HIV etc. You know, that supposedly Christian thing where you try to alleviate the sufferings of others.

More ‘gay things’:
Once, in a conversation with a friend of my nephew about homophobes & homophobia, he said, with a completely straight face*:
‘Homophobia is so gay!
Oh Noes!!eleventy!! By that critrieon it looks like the Ghey Hegemon has finally ‘outed’ Lively and all the rest of his ‘Friends of Narnia’!

As their magic book says. “As you sow, so shall you reap.” Not that they ever read it.
Fundies like Lively are the leading hate merchants of our society. It’s not surprising that their victims and targets hate them back. It’s a common human reaction.
BTW, Lively is quite likely to be a homophobic gay. He has 9 of the 5 signs of it.

joewinpisinger, you might want to reconsider whatever information sources you’re reading. No one has been arrested in Canada for “preaching against homosexuality,” preachers or otherwise.
