The Sex and Science Blog

I want to call your attention to the blog of a friend of mine, Sophie Hirschfeld, called Sex and Science. Sophie is an activist for the rights of sex workers and for equality for everyone. And she’s on a crusade to keep Chaz Bono on Dancing With the Stars. Personally, I wouldn’t watch Dancing With the Stars if you held a gun to my head, but I’m all for standing against society’s bigotry toward sexual minorities.

I just hope Chaz lasts longer than Nancy Grace, who is a despicable excuse for a human being.

I just hope Chaz lasts longer than Nancy Grace,

I wonder if someone manages to set this psychopath loose.

I disagree with Ed about Dancing With the Stars – I would absolutely watch it, if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to. It would probably be a lot better than being forced by Mike Huckabee at gunpoint, to watch David Barton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mwGYr0OWzw

Other than that, I can’t see myself watching it. Good luck to Chaz.

Heads up to people who support the rights of honest sex workers. That attitude seems obvious to me, but it’s fairly controversial, perhaps even on Freethought Blogs.

I wouldn’t watch Dancing with the Stars if a gun was to my head, either. But then, I’m the same way about watching TV in general. The only thing it’s good for is watching SF Giants and SA Spurs games. I might click it on to check out how bad the city has flooded if it’s rained a lot and I need to know if roads other than the usual suspects have flooded.

Wow, I am torn. I want to support this cause, but…I would have to watch the show with the sound and the picture off. How about if Sophie sends out a mass email when it’s time to vote? Right? We vote to say who we thought danced the best? If that’s what I have to do and I don’t need to see Nancy Grace’s pinched-what smells?-face, then count me in.

Having read my fellow commenters’ probing and witty, um, comments it strikes me that television really, really needs a new show. That show would be, “Putting Guns To The Heads Of The Rich And Famous”. I’m just an “idea” guy, I’ll leave the details up to those with superior executive function.

    Good one.

I respectfully decline, and I cede my place to… Nancy Grace.

Sophie Hirschfeld has some good material – I particularly appreciated her takedown of Annie Lobert & “Hookers for Jesus” – but she’s going to have to put up more than ten posts per year to end up on a lot of bookmark lists.

this is especially delightful for me because I got into a disagreement once with a woman in Spokane who in spite of being otherwise liberal, insisted that only women on the fringes of society or nymphomaniacs were sex workers in Spokane.

I assured her that Spokane had sex workers who were sex workers because that was what they chose to do, not because they were nymphos or because they had no other options, but she refused to accept that…

This was the same conversation in which I stated I’d rather be a sex worker than wait tables (both were selling their bodies, but one paid better and was easier on the feet)…which led others to say that I obviously had low opinions of restaurant staff…needless to say, I left that online community shortly thereafter
