Texas Gov. Rick Perry spent this weekend at a private gathering of some of the craziest of the wingnuts at the ranch of his biggest financial backer, including David Barton and Rick Scarborough. We all know about Barton, but Scarborough is a Texas evangelist I talked about in my C-SPAN speech (Part one, part two) in 2007. That year he started a crusade to get conservative Christians elected to school boards and local commissions to influence policy.
He’s also craziest enough to be one of the many bigots to believe that God intentionally sent AIDS to punish gay people. Video below the fold.

Ahh, Rick Perry. The Tea Party’s definition of a moderate republican.

But infection rates are disproportionately high for African Americans, so does that mean that God is more of a racist rather than a bigot?

I’m assuming you meant to say “more of a racist rather than a homophobe”?

This is no doubt going to generate the same kind of screeching that Obama’s talking to Jeremiah Wright did. Right?

Worldwide, the vast majority of AIDS has been among heterosexuals. Well over half of the victims are women and children.
God must hate heterosexuals, especially if they are women or children.

Oh, he doesn’t just think the his genocidal sky fairy sent AIDS to kill gays. He files lawsuits like mad if any legislative act might be remotely favorable to GLBTs. He’s virulently anti-abortion and attacks stem-cell research whenever he gets the chance.
He also hates Rick Perry for signing an executive order in 2007 making it mandatory for any female entering 6th grade to have the HPV vaccination, unless a parent opts out using the form all vaccine objectors must fill out. Far fewer than 1% of parents have opted out on that particular vaccination.
One of the few decent things Perry has done, and this scumbag hates him for it.
