Stoning Sakineh

In Iran, Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani has been sentenced to death, by stoning, for adultery. There have been 126 executions in Iran thus far this year (as of June 6). There have been 30 in the US, as of last week.

Pick a stone, and feel its heft;
We want to make this last.
Convicted of adultery,
She should not die too fast.
The whore confessed to all her sins
Beneath the lash’s sting—
By number 99, of course
She’d say most any thing—
Now we, as Allah’s instruments
Must rob her of her breath;
The law’s the law, and clearly calls
For stoning her to death

Her acts were unforgivable;
We’re righteous as we kill–
Her act was human selfishness
While ours is Allah’s will

From CNN:

A veteran Iranian human rights activist has warned that Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani, a mother of two, could be stoned to death at any moment under the terms of a death sentence handed down by Iranian authorities.
[....]
Ashtiani, 42, will be buried up to her chest, according to an Amnesty International report citing the Iranian penal code. The stones that will be hurled at her will be large enough to cause pain but not so large as to kill her immediately.

    I just don't get it. I mean, apart from the stunningly barbaric nature of this punishment, doesn't adultery involve two people? I suppose the man was "led astray", and is therefore completely innocent.I'm left speechless by such disgusting acts.

    What is there to 'get'? Islamic law rules the land and when it's handed down from clerics guided by Allah, there is no questioning. The real thing to 'get' is why people seem willing to give up morality in the name of a "moral religion".No religion is immune to the hypocrisy.

    If you want to get a better understanding of the "justice" of Islamic law when it comes to women you should watch "The Stoning of Soraya M". It is a stunning movie, but at the same time uncomfortable to watch. Unfortunately, it is based on a true story that is often repeated

    Ironic, that I am having to delete so many of DM's anti-atheism rants from this particular post. I would have thought even *he* would try to distance himself from the side of religion on this one.

    Horrible behavior, but what else can you expect from the followers of a murderous, psychopathic thug?Mo was a terrible human being. Peace be upon him? How about the pile of rocks used to kill this woman on his metaphorical head?
