Daniel Fincke Dave here, your Camels With Hammers webmaster! Dan asked me to provide todays installment, as it’s one of my favorite artists, Ryan Adams, who I run a fan website and message board for at alt-country.org. Ryan fronted Whiskeytown, one of the most influential alternative country bands during the 90′s, and launched his solo career in 2000 with what most consider to be his best album, Heartbreaker. I was first introduced to him with the release of Gold, and it’s still one of my all-time favorites. Since then he’s been hit or miss, but has still managed to put out some great songs. Here are a few of my favorites, including the beautiful “Oh My Sweet Carolina” with backing vocals by Emmylou Harris, and the video for “New York, New York” which was shot just days before 9/11.

What do think of his work with the Cardinals? I think the best of that is some of his all-time best. And I think your point about him being hit or miss is right, but it’s also a function of how prolific he is. So much material… it’s pretty amazing he can do that.
Thanks John, I’m glad you enjoyed the videos! Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights are both solid albums, although Cardinology never did grow on me – I should probably give it a few more listens. You’re right about him being prolific; Not many artists can put out an album a year (or more!).
