Daniel Fincke The Gaytheist Agenda relays this horrific and upsetting story:
The honorary consul to the British High Commission in Jamaica has been found murdered at his home in Montego Bay.
John Terry, 65, was discovered with a cord and an item of clothing tied around his neck outside his house in Mount Carey on Wednesday.
it is believed that the killer stole his wallet and mobile telephone in an attempt to make it appear as though a robbery had gone wrong. Police would not say whether Mr Terry’s murder was thought to be linked to his work as a Justice of the Peace but they were investigating the possibility that the attack might have been homophobic after a handwritten note on his body described him as a “batty man”, local slang for a homosexual. The note also said: “This is what will happen to ALL gays.” It was signed: “Gay-Man”
The horror that you could be murdered for such a thing. So upsetting. The thought that in some societies you legally must be executed for such a thing. The thought that still today people read the law codes of such barbaric societies and think them a guide to morality and the inspiration of an omnipotent, omnibenevolent deity.
Sometimes humanity’s brutality and stupidity are truly stupefying.

Thanks for the article. Hari is one of my favorite columnists and, could you believe it, he friended me on Facebook out of nowhere during the summer!

Yes, I’m a huge fan. I think he friended me because I became a Facebook fan and then Facebook recommended me as a friend to him and he just went ahead and added me not knowing even why Facebook had recommended me!
I couldn’t believe it. You’d imagine relatively high profile people being MORE exclusive and denying friend requests FROM strangers, not making them TO strangers! It was so exciting.
And he was really grateful when I told him I was a big fan but, alas, not so grateful that he ever visited the blog after I sent him the numerous posts linking to his work that I had already amassed.
