Benson has a “guest post”

Update: Right. It’s not that she’s bizarre and creepy for monitoring all my posts and tweets and then doing “research” on them and writing up the “research” as if it were significant somehow – no, it’s that I am, for pointing out that she’s doing that. Totally makes sense. Nosce te ipsum.

Sometimes the level of obsession is so bizarre and so creepy that it just needs pointing out.

This is someone with a real job, a demanding, professional job, and this is how she spends her free time – monitoring my every visible-to-her word, hunting for the source of a guest post, comparing the original to the guest post, and writing up her findings, quite as if she were the FBI and a guest post on my blog were a coded message to ISIS.

She must think I’m enormously important.

It was pretty crappy of you to NOT invite people to add their thoughts or even disagree, and only allow them to “comment.”
    Whatteryoo, some kind of coward?

  2. says

Sigh. I am no longer sure about what the right response to this kind of obsession is. You have largely been ignoring this intense idiocy, but these people show no sign of relenting. What do they get out of this, seriously? It’s almost as if you have, however unwittingly, become the raison d’être of their existence.

    @Kausik
If nothing else, it’s certainly irrefutable evidence of their stability and intellectual superiority, amirite? 😛

  4. says

Oh I’ve been VERY largely ignoring this intense bullshit. But in the past few days I kept seeing her tweeting at me even though I have her blocked, because someone I don’t have blocked would reply to her and thus it would be forced on my attention. (Thanks, Twitter!) Then I noticed a spike in hits from the slime pit, and for once instead of ignoring it I took a look, and found this, and was just so impressed by the sheer obsessive pettiness of it…

Can these assholes get fucking lives already, or what? It would be funny, if it weren’t so sad and scary at the same time.

  6. Sili says

I bet you’re one of those people who use two spaces after punctuation as well.

    And serial commas!

  7. Brony says

It’s not precisely that you are important to them, so much as you are important to others in a conflict. The fact that people choose to treat you as an authority on issues they don’t want to lose on is a threat to them. There are the honest attempts to persuade, and there is this…

  8. Funny Diva says

    Wow.
I wouldn’t have thought this person had a lot of free time, and _this_ is what they do with it? Or are they giving their family or profession short-shrift to indulge this obsession?
    Either way…seriously…pathetic.

I’d assumed Ophelia wasn’t highlighting this person’s, um, output because they’d gone inactive. Silly me. (and no wonder PZ thought it best to actively exclude assholish people like this from the meet-up earlier this year…)

But this post will prove, PROVE, I SAY! that the FtBullies are the ones obsessively harassing random individuals who are just minding their own business.

  9. says

Oh, aka the Oxford comma. Yes, I use that comma when it’s needed and not when it isn’t. That really does make me a heretic because you’re supposed to pick one or the other. Some magazines and publishers will allow only one. That’s utterly ridiculous, because it’s a matter of meaning and clarity. There shouldn’t be an unbending rule about it.

  10. Sili says

I’ll have you know that Terrence and Dinsdale take offence at that.

The rest of my sandbox agrees with you.

  11. John Morales says

Well, that a coterie of frustrated people obsessively scrutinise your every public utterance looking for something to criticise (suspected plagiarism, in this case) means you are quite important to them.

    (Part of your devoted readership!)

  12. says

This is a “hobby” the way collecting and naming grains of sand would be.

My pet grains of sand named Eric would like to discuss your dismissive attitude toward their free speech.

  13. opposablethumbs says

Doug and Dinsdale Piranha (very wary of Spiny Norman). Coincidence? I think not.

  14. says

Suspected plagiarism? (John @ 19) I don’t think that can be the accusation. If it were plagiarism I would hardly call it a guest post, would I.

I don’t know exactly what the accusation is though. That’s part of what makes the whole thing so stupid. It’s just some random annotation and pointing stuff out, as if hoping that SOMETHING will look nefarious.
