Before you have to slap her

And I’ve been trying to get to this all day. Honestly, Jaclyn Glenn and Dave Muscato between them have ruined my schedule.

Bill Maher @billmaher 23h

Dealing w/ Hamas is like dealing w/ a crazy woman who’s trying to kill u – u can only hold her wrists so long before you have to slap her

It’s so cool that the best way to talk about Hamas turns out to be to talk about hitting a woman. Hey, coincidence, Hamas like to hit women too!

It’s so cool that more than 26 hundred people have RTd that already and that there will be more.

It’s so cool that nearly 2 thousand people have favorited that.

It’s so cool that there’s just no fucking end to it. Ever.

I can’t figure out how many things are wrong with that tweet.
With the combinations and permutations it seems like a very large number.

It’s been a long time since I liked Bill Maher, and I never really liked him all that much to begin with. As soon as I became aware of him, I basically realized I found him annoying. Smug, pompous, condescending, disdainful, full of himself – all those traits that are just sooooooooo attractive in someone who expects to be listened to.

I am genuinely intrigued by this. Is Maher a crude misogynist? Or is this the most subtle, insightful, challenging comment anyone has yet made about Israel and Hamas?

If you saw a man unsuccessfully trying to restrain a woman by her wrists and then slapping her, would you intervene? If so, how? Whose ‘side’ would you take ?

As clever analogies go, this one isn’t too bad.

On the other hand, Maher may just be a sexist jackhole and I may be reading too much into a thoughtless bit of hate mongering.

    Hmmmm….

    Lawrence,

    Isn’t too bad?

Murdering hundreds of Palestinians is somehow comparable to slapping someone?

Until now, Israel has only been “holding their wrists together”?

I would think the analogy would work better if he was holding her wrists and slapping innocent people walking by, but that’s just me( apart from the whole disgusting, misogynistic imagery, there’s that, too).
