He’s right – from cover to cover, the Bible is pro-slavery.

Maybe that’s all the evidence we need that the Bible is a very bad book and poorly suited to modern life.

That is pretty bizarre. I would like to see the context, except that I have a fear that the context would make it even more bizarre.

If slavery was so bad, why didn’t Jesus, Paul or the prophets say something?

Maybe because they were not good. Maybe because they were nothing but humbug concocted and edited and rewritten by fools and liars devoted to humbug.

Well, note the flag in the background. That should be a clue that nothing but stupid is going to be found there.

Unfortunately, that quote is not something created by the Onion (or left over from April Fools Day).

For the record, the person who said it was: Republican Rep. Loy Mauch, a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. On January 8th 2009, he said: “… If slavery were so God-awful, why didn’t Jesus or Paul condemn it, why was it in the Constitution and why wasn’t there a war before 1861? The South has always stood by the Constitution and limited government. When one attacks the Confederate Battle Flag, he is certainly denouncing these principles of government as well as Christianity.”

And he’s not the only Republican who has said some crazy things about slavery. Let’s not forget about Republican State Representative Jon Hubbard, also from Arkansas. In his book, Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative, he says this:

“The institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.”

It’s amazing to me how these people ever get elected to anything.

Well, if he’s so dumb how come he’s in the Legislature?

I’ve heard this kind of thing before, believe it or not, and have always wondered: So, are you volunteering? What about your family? Wait, they don’t need to volunteer; ownership of them comes automatically with ownership of you.

I’ve got a garage needs cleaning.
