Oh, come on now… I think Clint Eastwood convincingly showed us, you can have a meaningful debate with one empty chair. It should be no surprise that we can have a successful conference with thousands.

Are these “minorities” you speak of just one monolithic block?

Contemporary conservatism, is a mix of classical liberalism and religious nationalism. It very much reflects the individualism of liberalism as opposed to the group identity emphasis of post-liberal leftist politics. The very concept of “minority outreach” does not really make sense relative to conservatism, so it is no surprise it generates minimal interest.

My parents and brother are staunch Republicans because capitalist individualism and Christian nationalism appeals to them as individuals. That’s their worldview and they prefer to adhere to that rather than vote Democratic just because some republicans are racists or anti-immigrant.

It’s based on “religious nationalism” yet somehow opposed to group identity. What an amazing balancing act!

It’s strange to see this offered as if it were a defense, because I imagine that was exactly the point here.
