It would have been better sooner, true.

As true as that is; we need to give better positive feedback to well known people who come out as atheist. Right now there’s mostly the negative reactions of believers. Lets try not to drown out our positive reactions in a message of ‘too late’. We know why he did this now he doesn’t have to run for office anymore.

We need to stop acting like it’s the exception rather than the rule.

It ought to be FUCKING OBVIOUS by now that no politician believes in a higher power that will hold them to account for their actions. Heeeellloooo?????Stop pretending.

Because being openly gay wasn’t enough of a hassle for him?

Unfortunately, he also seems to be somewhat transphobic – judging by his opposition to including trans people in ENDA, and his opposition to funding reassignment surgery for Michelle Kosilek. He may have gotten better over time, but he doesn’t have a great record of supporting the T in LGBT.

I guess only the faithists get to welcome a prodigal son.
