I’m much more optimistic about the Dublin conference now* – and thus able to be excited about it again. It’s going to tackle important subjects, and Ireland needs it. Lucky lucky me to get to be involved.

Awesome! Enjoy the conference. And yes, another beautiful day in paradise (I live somewhat north of Seattle), blue skies and warm. Summer in the pacific northwest = unbeatable.

jenBPhillips @ 8: Ha! Definitely. A friend of mine here refers to blue patches between the skies as “sucker patches”, because they sucker you into thinking that it will clear up just before the clouds sock in again. I think that sometimes there are “sucker months” that make you think that summer has arrived, but then BAM! 29 days of rain in June.
Double plus good, since I’m going. And the added bonus is that the haters must be fuming at their failure now.
This is just gonna get worse, I fear. Please take care of yourself.

Ophelia, I’m really glad to hear things are better than you thought. Here’s hoping that my guesses are correct or that it’s something even better. And hoping even more that you can help free Irish women from the Vatican. Too late for Savita, of course, but obviously if the secularists don’t raise a stink there’ll be another and another and another.
@MrFancyPants 7 and jenBPhillips 8: I live in the Canary islands. Arguably the best climate in the world. We’re all moaning because it’s only about 21 ºC (70 ºF) today, which is dreadfully cold for the time of year. Sorry.

I sometimes regret that I did my Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics rather than astronomy, which would’ve given me the opportunity to live and work in the Canaries for a while … Are there still folks from Durham, UK, there?
