Elizabeth Warren. Yesssssssssssssssssss!

Wut? PBS is saying all the polls are closed except Alaska and a few Rocky Mountain states. The west coast states aren’t still open? Well Washington has mail-only voting now, so the polls were never open. I hope California polls don’t close at 7.

Joe Donnelly in Indiana, not the “rape=pregnancy is God’s will” guy, Mourdock. It’s annoying that we have to pronounce Mourdock as if it were Murdoch. It’s not Murdoch.

No, California closes at 8. What are they talking about?

Rahm Emanuel is smiling.

Last time the news people knew the result well before 8 PT. I wonder if they know now.

It pays to check Paul Fidalgo.

RT @mdedora: Florida’s Amendment 8, Which Would Allow Taxpayer Money to Go to Churches, Is Defeated http://bit.ly/REsEUb

Amendment 8 defeated in Florida. Not even close.

Claire McCaskill beats Todd Akin. TODD AKIN.

The pro-rape candidates are not doing well this year.

Hurry up, Ohio.

Ohio, Ohio, Ohio.

Axelrod says it’s all going according to plan.

Paul Fidalgo is in Twitter jail for tweeting so lot. He’s @PaulinJail for now.

They make it look suspensey, but they don’t mention California.

“If the president wins Florida it is over.”

The Romney camp is glum, PBS says.

I look forward to opening a window and hearing Queen Anne yelling and cheering. That’s my neighborhood, by the way, not a neighbor.

Seven minutes to west coast poll closing, when they’ll announce.

Ok maybe they don’t know yet.

Yeah but at this point Obama is still losing by 11 elctoral and over a million popular votes. I’m still scared.

  2. Aratina Cage says

Welp, Twitter muzzled me, but I’ve been loving tonight more than I thought I would except for the anti-gay votes which is not going good in Maine.

CA polls close 8PM CA time, which is the same as 11PM east coast time. So eastcoasters have to wait until almost midnight their time to get any sensible result from CA election.

Or, about one hour from now, whichever time zone you’re in …

  4. hotshoe says

Also closing at 8PM west coast time are Oregon Wahington, Idaho, and Hawaii. Who cares about Idaho.

  5. hotshoe says

Ophelia, in your state’s case, do you think the 8PM “closing time” refers to the time when the election officials can release the vote counts (which they could have previously counted, since the ballots were all mailed in earlier) or is it maybe the time when they refuse any more sacks of mail from the Ppst Office ?

HuffPo has Bazza 10 votes (points?) in front of Mittens. I’m worried about how Mittens will cope with a loss. Launch a takeover of a few struggling businesses and cut them for profit and destroy the lives of its workers? I hope that and his billions consoles the poor fellow. Of course, if Mittens does win, he’ll do it to the whole country. 🙂

  7. Aratina Cage says

Even the Speaker of the House is talking about Obama winning. Very, very small chance of Romney winning now.

  8. briane says

Mittens back in front. I for one welcome our new corporate overlords. As a loyal citizen of the vassal state of Australia. Hail Mittens!

  9. says

Who, Romney? Romney doesn’t just need Florida! Florida would clinch it for Obama but not Romney.

You weren’t counting California (and W and O)? California was always in the bag, so the count was always misleading until 8 Pacific.

I’m a foreigner. I assume those chickens hadn’t hatched until the votes were counted. My bad.

  11. briane says

More world weary, less naive perhaps? Anyway, Obama can’t have another term as POTUS, so he can do his best to get through as much legislation as possible and pardon a few rascals as his last act in 4 years times.

I don’t know how much longer I can stay awake. NY Times calls it for Obama, I guess that’s good enough for me. Am a little worried that Obama is not winning the popular vote (at least, not right now) and is going to be president based on the weird mechanics of the Electoral College … the Rethugs weren’t going to concede Mr. Obama any legitimacy in any case, but it will be spun even worse in the mass media that Obama “didn’t really win” and this time, more people will believe it.
Ahh, that’s borrowing trouble which I shouldn’t do.

    Thank you, everyone who voted.

We still don’t know about Florida, but Obama swept the rest of the battleground states, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire. It’s almost 2008 but without Indiana and North Carolina, and maybe Florida. It’s the end of the Republican party, but they don’t know it yet, and probably won’t for the next few cycles.

It’s particularly delicious that all (?) the rape apologists went down in flames. Who knew that raging sexism was a campaign-ending move? There will be a few more female Americans in the Senate next year, and the consequences will hopefully be dire.

I hear that gay marriage won a few votes, too. It’s almost enough to make me believe in progress.

“Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, But to be young was very heaven!” When I was young, elections got us Reagan and Nixon, but now that I’m old it turns out that bliss is still available.

Cool, woke up to good news for all you lot over the pond. I was dreading Mittens taking over the reigns there so I hate to think what you were feeling!

Maybe yes, maybe no. The Corporate Plutocrats still have all their money and the Religious Right still have all their hate.

    Thank you Americans.

We watched the 2008 election as it was liveblogged by the Beeb. This year we went to bed scared, hoping we wouldn’t wake up to a Mitt-win.

About two hours after we got to sleep
I woke up for the third time, picked up my phone, and decided to be brave and fire up the Google.

It’s a massive relief. I woke my partner up because I didn’t adequately muffle my squeaks. I told her the result, and she said “Oh thank fuck. Rapeublican defeat cake for dinner I think!”

I’m just waiting for the foil hat brigade to provide “evidence” of the commieMuslimNaziKenyansoshlistlizardpeoplefascistgayblackpanther plot to ban free speech, turn all of the guns into decorative stem vases, and put everyone. over the age of six on the pill

Went to bed happy. Woke up happy.

Here in California, we also defeated an attempt to ban unions from using payroll deducted funds for political purposes. Corporations and government contractors would also have been effected, but NOT LLCs, or hedge funds, or real estate trusts, or Wall Street firms, or…

Last night Rachel Maddow pointed out something interesting about New Hampshire: Maggie Hassan elected Governor. Carol Shea-Porter and Ann McLane Kuster elected to the House. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte were not up for re-election this year.
