Malala

I heard a long report on BBC World about Malala Yusufzai a couple of hours ago, including a big chunk of an interview with her. On top of everything else, she’s fluent in English. I looked for it via Google and thought I’d found it but was surprised at how cheery the reporter sounded – then I belatedly looked at the date: it was last January. She starts reading from the diary she wrote for the BBC at 1:25 in.

The report I heard today interviewed the New York Times reporter Adam Ellick, who got to know her in 2009. He posted a photo to Twitter. The other guy is her father.

Malala Yousafzai: Surgery to remove bullet ‘a success’

Surgeons say they have successfully removed a bullet from the campaigning 14-year-old schoolgirl shot by Taliban gunmen in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. Malala Yousafzai is reported to be in stable condition after Wednesday morning’s operation in Peshawar.

What dishonourable gutless, pathetic excuses for humans the taliban swine are to committ such appalling atrocities against children who are already smarter and better people than any of their stupid mullahs ever could be..

In the last piece I saw the Taliban spokes-asshole say that Malala will be targeted again. The idea that she might not see her next birthday makes me sick to my stomach.

Pakistanis appear to be uncommonly shocked by the attack on Malala. Whether this is enough to enough to stop the softpeddling of the islamic terrorism in that country remains to be seen. There were protests and prayer vigils – and guess what? Unlike all the other islamic rageboy protests, there were plenty of women out in force. Maybe they are beginning to wake up to the fact that the bullets are not meant just for Malala, but all their daughters too.
