The pir was an expert in evicting djinns

So there was this girl of 13 in Pakistan. Her parents took her to a pir to evict some djinns that had possessed her. Well any parent would. A relative had recommended the pir.

“He told me that the pir was an expert in evicting djinns and did not charge anything for his services,” [her father Manzoor Hussain] said.

What could possibly go wrong?

Hussain said the girl was tied to a charpoy and burned with a heated iron rod. He said the pir had poured red chilli powder on parts of the girl’s body before burning them with the rod. He said the parents were made to leave the room after midnight. “He told us to wait outside. He said it was not safe in the room,” he added.

In short, she was tortured to death.

The report of an autopsy performed on Salma, 13, stated that she had died from suffocation. It said the girl’s breathing was hampered by blocking her nostrils with cotton buds and holding her mouth shut.

The autopsy, carried out at Cheechwatni tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital, confirmed that her skin was burnt with a hot iron rod. The report said there were bruises on the girl’s arms, face and chest.

Where the djinns are now is unknown.

Torturing and killing a girl to rid her of imaginary critters. Superstition at its finest.

The djinn probably never got out, what with her nose and mouth blocked.

Sometimes, I hate people so much.

‘yeah sure she was tortured to death, but let me turn this around to bitch at feminists for something political and minor that I can’t let go even though it happened over a year ago.’

We almost need a new law (Like Godwyn’s) for incidents like this. Which seem to come up now on every frikken thread where a woman is mentioned.

Yes, because heaven forbid that anyone bring up a real life situation where a girl is tortured to death without someone bringing up Elevatorgate; you see, when a girl dies horribly because of foolish superstition, the really important thing is that we spend our time expressing disdain for Rebecca Watson.

Yeah, my mom, a doctor, pulled that one on me all the time when I was a kid. “You think that this flu which has had you vomiting for 24 hours straight is bad!? Today I told someone that they were going to die of cancer within the next six months, so go to school!”

Never made the flu any better, nor did it help her patient’s cancer. Mostly just made me miserable and inconvenienced the school’s janitors.

Apparent dispassion is not much of a defence mechanism against confronting this sort of appalling brutality, is it, Ophelia?

Thank you for not wilting and for revealing truth.

    (I am weeping)

    Appalling. This, too, beggars belief:

Hussain said he had accepted the death as God’s will and not reported the matter to the police.

An anonymous caller informed the police of her death.

Well of course. How can we justify our egregious injustices to women if we can’t be allowed to ignore their every polite request to be left in peace? It just wouldn’t be natural, would it?

Khursheed Bibi said the girl had frequently complained of body aches and at times could not speak properly. She said they were certain she had been possessed as several doctors had failed to cure her illness.

Poor poor kid. I was wondering what the symptoms are of djinn-possession. I note that they didn’t mention backwardness and ignorance in the other people. They’ve obviously all got djinns in their heads.

Thank you for bringing that to attention Didaktylos. I hope neither of these contemptible shameless freaks will ever see the outside of a prison ever again. When eligible for parole they will be 77 and 74 respectively. I hope they never will.

In other news the (former) wife and accomplice of child molester/ rapist/ murderer – Marc Dutroux, Michelle Martin, who among many horrors let two children aged eight deliberately starve to death locked in a cellar beneath their house in 1995, while feeding the dogs, is to be released. An appeal of the prosecution to prevent this shameful injustice from happening was overturned. A forceful smack in the face of the parents doing life, courtesy Belgian law.

Sentenced to thirty years, In Belgium you only have to do a third of the sentence. Then you are more or less automatically released.

Very befittingly, she has converted to the Catholic faith and is now going to be a nun in a convent. Has been accepted by the Clarisses monastery in Malonne, close to where she committed her despicable crimes.

Marc Dutroux hopes to be released in 2014.

I have never understood why the supposedly monotheistic Abrahamic religions give so much power & credence to immortal godlings like demons & angels, such a basic logical disconnect.

I have never understood why the supposedly monotheistic Abrahamic religions give so much power & credence to immortal godlings like demons & angels, such a basic logical disconnect.

I don’t know enough about Judaism or Islam to write about them, but Christianity never has been monotheistic. Christians have at least three gods, Yahweh, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Christian apologists do much handwaving and tapdancing to squeeze these three gods into a single god but since they’re treated by Christians as three separate, unequal deities, then we can as well. Catholics treat Mary as a goddess, most other Christians consider her a demi-god. Many Christians accept Satan as a god, possibly as powerful as Yahweh. Saints, angels and devils are demi-gods.

The Christian pretense of monotheism is easily shown to be a sham. I suspect the same is true of the other Abrahamic religions.
