In a couple of weeks

Meanwhile…see that top banner in the right margin, the one above Rock Beyond Belief? Moving Secularism Forward? I’m a speaker at that. Orlando is kind of far away from everything except Florida, but I’m hoping some people will turn up anyway.

It’s a great lineup.

Daniel C. Dennett, Sir Harold Kroto, PZ Myers, Russell Blackford, Stephen Law, Rita Swan, Anthony Pinn, Victor Stenger, Elisabeth Cornwell, Eddie Tabash, Lionel Tiger, Ronald Bailey, Razib Khan, Jamila Bey, Sikivu Hutchinson, David Silverman, Bill Cooke, Steven K. Green, Ellenbeth Wachs, Ronald A. Lindsay, Debbie Goddard and Tom Flynn.

The following weekend I’m at QED in Manchester.

QED has a blog post about Maryam.

That sounds fabulous. Wish I could be there! Move it a little closer to Louisiana next time, and I’m totally there.
One of my PhD-school possibilities was in Orlando, but then I went to visit and realized Orlando is REALLY FUCKING BIG and spread out. At least they have Disney Land going for them.

I wish you could too! And I’m totally down with Louisiana idea.

Orlando is big…I didn’t know that. I’d been thinking it was a little stub attached to the Disney place.

Aah, I am only an hour away from the Manchester gig! Can’t afford the ticket price, damn. It looks great. Enjoy the North of England. :o)

That emoticon-plus-bracket was supposed to be a smiley face by the way! Was not meant to convey shock at the idea of the North of England being enjoyed. 🙂

Heh. I’m quite keen on North of England aspect; I’ve seen only obvious touristy parts of it so far. I get to go to the Manchester Sceptics in the Pub. Fun!

Oh yay which pub is it in, do you know? Sitting in a pub, I might be able to afford! I’m a Lancashire lass who defected to Yorkshire, another lovely part of the North to explore if you’re here for a while.

    I don’t know but I’ll find out.

I long to explore Yorkshire – but can’t on this trip, am there only for QED. I have “explored” the dales via Google Earth to tide me over in the meantime.

Yikes! That sounds like Amherst, NY, and the north campus of SUNY Buffalo. It’s the ugliest campus and the most horrible suburb I’ve ever seen – miles and miles of pointless empty space everywhere, sliced through by huge 4 lane streets that might as well be freeways.
