Peter Palumbo

I saw this on Jessica Ahlquist’s twitter feed a few hours ago:

State representative Palumbo called me an “evil little thing.”

Just now I was about to google for details preparatory to doing a post, but JT Eberhard got there first.

Peter G. Palumbo, the Democrat in the RI House from the Cranston district, has no rebukes for the Jesus-loving liars, bullies, or thugs.  He has nothing negative to say about the people who felt they were above the Constitution and lied to subvert it.  He did, however, have something to say about Jessica.  According to Palumbo she is “An evil little thing.”  That may have bee said sarcastically, but the line “I think she’s being coerced by evil people” was most assuredly not.

I urge you to listen to him say that. It’s the first soundbite on the page, and it’s just a few seconds. Don’t listen if you have high blood pressure or a stomach ache. It’s disgusting – two grown men sneering at a high school girl who had the audacity to uphold the Constitution.

JT says it more better:

Palumbo’s email address is rep-palumbo@rilin.state.ri.us.   His office phone number is  (401) 785-2882.  Spread the word and inundate him.  Our leaders should respect the constitution, not snipe at those who have been been confirmed to have fought in its defense.  Palumbo has just sided with dishonesty and bullies.

Drop him a line.

no one says anything “more better.”

True. Ophelia should have said “more betterer.”

If anyone knows a serious, progressive, independent candidate that wishes to run against him (assuming he does not quickly, humbly, desperately apologize, and beg forgiveness), I’ll be happy to donate free web design and video editing efforts to the cause.

Thanks Ophelia. That kind of praise from you means quite a lot.

And thanks everybody else for piling on. One thing Jessica has unquestionably done is help unite our movement into something that better damn well be paid attention to.

I sent him an email yesterday. This thug has no business in government. Shame on him!

    Dear Rhode Island,

As a lifelong Democrat, I am disgusted by the behavior of this thug. His public characterization of a 16 year old child who evidently knows the Constitution better than he does as an “evil little thing” is disgusting. This child is living with threats of rape and violence as a result of her bravery, and in no way deserves some feeble minded godbot piling on & fanning the fire. If that little girl or her family is hurt, their blood will be on Palumbo’s hands. Shame on him, and shame on you for allowing this kind of language from one of your elected representatives.

If he is not able to provide an immediate, heart felt, abject apology to this teenager, he should be removed from office. Based on his inability to tell the truth, he would be no loss:

So, Jessica deserves to be called an “evil little thing” for using rational discourse and the US legal system to make a point? When was the last time that a state representative used language that strong about highschoolers who physically, verbally, and emotionally bully their GLBT classmates (sometimes to the extent of suicide)?

BTW: Ophelia, if the Anons out there don’t like “more better”, might I suggest this accolade instead (from a spam comment I recently saw on one of the B+W threads for which I have an email subscription):

Continue to maintain up the superb operate.

(Somehow, I think it deserves to be followed by something like “until all their base are belong to you”.)

IIRC there was a British pol got in trouble a year or so back for tweeting something far less nasty about Scientology (and rightly so — public officials have to represent all their constituents, including those they disagree with, and do not enjoy untrammeled free speech in the sense of being able to shoot their mouths off in whatever way happens to cross their tiny minds).

Typical ignorant and bullying remark from a Republican. To think that these people are in positions of power. Frightening. They won’t be satisfied until the U.S. is a fundamentalist theocracy.

As an outside observer from the UK may I make an observation? When one looks at the various countries of the world, it is apparent that the less religious a country is, the better the standard of living is. The countries with the lowest economic differences, the lowest crime rates, the best educational standards, the best health care, etc. are also the least religious.

If you want to find the countries that are totally screwed up then you have to look at the highly religious countries in Africa and the Middle East.

There is only one highly religious country in the entire world that bucks this trend, the US of A. I wonder why the USA does not suffer from the horrendous dysfuncion that other highly religious societies have to endure? The reason is that they have a constitution that protects them from the evil effects of religious belief, as well as couragious people who are prepared to face down the hostility of the mindless religious sheep to uphold that constitution. Peter Palumbo, upholding that constitution is supposed to be your job, maybe if you actually did it, school girls wouldn’t have to do it for you.
