Don’t Streisand that blog, my friend

And more #Burzynski.

Richard Wilson at Don’t Get Fooled Again.

While the UK media has been characteristically slow in picking this up – presumably the Murdoch press are too preoccupied with their own problems and the Guardian Media Group still frozen in the headlights after the Observer got sucked into the  controversybloggers all over the world have been ensuring that this story continues to grow.

Josephine Jones has a list of posts on the subject. There are a lot. More not-going-well for the intimidation thing.

The likelihood of Stephens contacting me now seems to be getting ever smaller. Critical Burzynski posts are popping up all over the internet almost faster than I can read them.

Despite his confident assertion that Quackwatch, Ratbags, and the rest of you Skeptics days are numbered, surely Mr Stephens will not be able to deal with us all individually?

You will find a growing list of new Burzynski posts here), where anarchic teapot points out the perils of unleashing the Streisand Effect.

Spartacus Streisand is all over their ass.

Yep, I did my part yesterday with a brief post.

Stephens really should be canned. I think it’s safe to say that he has done immeasurable damage to the Burzynski Clinic. I’m normally fairly lazy about calls to spread-the-word-about-this-quack, but the thuggish language and tactics that Stephens was ham-handedly attempting to employ just really bugged me enough to join in the Streisanding. His e-mail displayed a level of incompetence, both about the law as well as how the internet works, that was truly shocking. Not to mention completely amoral and disgusting.

Really James? This is all about Stephens? And not the fact that The Burzynski Clinic is offering unproven and most likely ineffective treatments at an enormous cost? Raising extremely expensive false hope in people with a terminal illness? Wasting their precious time and financial resources on what appears to be nothing more than a failed concept that its “inventor” refuses to let go of?

I think you need to readjust your sights slightly.

Sorry, didn’t mean to send the wrong message. The thing is, quacks taking hundreds of thousands of dollars for bogus treatments from desperate families is, sadly, something that doesn’t surprise me anymore. It’s infuriating, but I’m somewhat jaded to it. Yes, I oppose it in the strongest possible terms, of course — but my jaw isn’t dropping. Seen it yesterday, I’ll see it again tomorrow.

But it’s not every day you see a PR fail of the magnitude of what Marc Stephens has been doing here. Were it not for his ineptitude, the Burzynski Clinic would be merrily accepting celebrity-raised money with nary a peep of negative mainstream press.

Obviously the Burzynski Clinic’s actions are far more reprehensible than Stephens’. Stephens’ are just more confusing.

I think you mean our primitive ancestors…descendants are the ones who come after us.
There is nothing to stop you from eating raw food! It might kill you, if you get some sort of horrible bacteria from it, but that’s what also happened to our primitive ancestors! Their lifespans were much, much shorter than ours…eating raw food was probably a contributing factor!
