Training dominion-oriented daughters

Libby Anne spotted another deeply sinister picture of a female human being on a Vision Forum DVD.

Will you look at that?

It’s all the more sinister because it’s so effective – the colors and patterns are pretty, and they pull us in.

Libby Anne is scathing.

It appears from the cover of this DVD that daughters take dominion by doing laundry. Nice. I mean seriously, thought goes into cover images like these (we hope), and someone really truly honestly decided that the best image to represent dominion-oriented daughters is a little girl doing laundry. Because, you know, that’s how women take dominion. By doing laundry. Interesting.

This made me wonder. What pictures do they put on DVDs on raising sons?

No laundry.

And there’s something else. Take a good look at that picture. That little girl has no mouth – it’s been covered up by her stack of laundry. Vision Forum has given her a niqab made out of a pile of clean clothes. No wicked feminist back-talk coming out of her, you can be sure.

I really hope it’s not laundry. Are you sure she’s not just packing for Fashion Week in New York?

Nah. There would be more black in there. 😉

  2. Hamilton Jacobi says

That is just the beginning. In the video, they train her to balance a biscuit on her nose for 72 hours before being given permission to eat.

Learning these skills at an early age is very important. Otherwise she might end up as something less than human, such as a feminist or a secular humanist.

Exercising Dominion is a man’s job. Accepting it is a woman’s job.

For those who long for a return to the Dark Ages, I mean.

It’s always puzzled me to see so many women pushing an agenda that robs them of power and freedom.

  4. says

Well, the only way for my daughters to get the laundry is to pry it from their dad’s cold dead hands…

Why would women buy into that?

-They’ve been brainwashed from early on.

-They are deep inside of this culture, they have the most to lose. If tomorrow their families stopped being dominionists, their husbands would still be the professionals they are, but the women would be nothing, lost in a world for which they posess no skills.

-They can elevate their status within the community

-They may long for easy answers. If you come from a family that is horribly broken, somebody who guarantees you a place and stability might be appealing. No more fathers who are running away, no more mothers who come home at 11pm from their second job while the smelly neighbour farted into your armchair.

  5. Ken Pidcock says

Fortunately, they can be redeemed – if they return home. And do laundry.

Imagine, as a young adult, having your every accomplishment seen as betrayal by your parents. You know, from an ethical standpoint, this stuff might as well be about training up your kids to be criminals. It should be that unacceptable.

  6. says

Ken – Yep, that’s how it is. It doesn’t matter that I’m in grad school today, I’m betraying my parents by not being a homemaker – by sending my daughter to daycare, by putting off having more children, by dreaming of a career. The only thing that would make them happy is repentance and a return to their beliefs and lifestyle. It sucks.

It breaks my heart, in a way…She looks like a test-lab monkey. First a cage, then home-school. Soon the child-bride of a much older husband. Ughh. Well, now that we’ve seen her, we are morally obligated to help her out of this mess. Ughhh.

    Nothing an education won’t cure.

I do wish these religious loonies would take more care with their research.

Stanhope Forbes, who painted the cover for the boys’ video – see link in the OP – did dozens of paintings of women doing distinctly non-domestic work. His wife, Elizabeth Stanhope Forbes, was a working woman artist along with several others who were part of the Newlyn School. (That’s Newlyn harbour.)

    Bloody idiots!

    @9,

Good on you for that. You should be proud of yourself for your efforts.

Remember, the sky is NOT the limit… just ask the guys who landed on the Moon.

Why would women buy into that?

    – They are taught to be afraid of the outside world. However bad things are at home, out there women are prostitutes and drug addicts and victims of Satan.

    – This is really what God, the ruler of the universe, has ordained. Rebelling against the men in charge is no different from rebelling against God himself. Rebels are vile, worthless pieces of shit that will, and deserve to be, burnt forever in Hell.

    Vision Forum?

Poor George Orwell has to be up at ultracentrifuge speeds with all the Newspeak being used for real these days.

Lots of funny people at The Friendly Atheist think it’s reading too much into it to point out the hidden mouth. Seriously?!

  13. Ophelia Benson says

I just noticed that on the Fathers and Sons one, Howard Phillips is called the Hon Howard Phillips. What’s that about? What makes him an Hon?

  14. Chris says

according to dicitonary.com ‘Hon’ is an informal, shortened form of ‘honey’. I’m not sure what’s being implied there.

I’m not sure what it is, but something about the combination of that title with that picture makes me want to hurt something, preferably with something blunt and unforgiving….I never claimed to be a good human being.

  15. Francisco Bacopa says

I just noticed that on the Fathers and Sons one, Howard Phillips is called the Hon Howard Phillips. What’s that about? What makes him an Hon?

That’s a common title for a judge, however I’ve never heard of this title being used outside of the courtroom and sometimes in official court documents.

  16. Didaktylos says

I just noticed that on the Fathers and Sons one, Howard Phillips is called the Hon Howard Phillips. What’s that about? What makes him an Hon?

In Britain it would mean he’s the younger son of a an earl or viscount; I think in the US it would mean that at some point he held an elected political office (I’m not sure at what level it kicks in).

It’s a struggle to find an image of a woman who is sad, who isn’t anglo-pretty, and who isn’t laundry or kitchen adjacent. Seriously, has anyone seen even ONE brown face on this whole website? All I found were illustrations on the “Jungle Doctor” series, such as this book called Jungle Doctor in Slippery Places?!

Some other observations of their imagery:
Here is another picture equating femininity with laundry – “A winning recipe for joyful motherhood” apparently involves lots of clean towels.

As usual, the human body is male.

Is that girl actually using a gun? Too bad the man whose headship she’s under won’t let her get a good shot at the cougar.

Her dreams are shaken, but you’d never notice under the perpetual veneer of femininity.

This housewife could have sworn she left God in next to the canned peas.

There is nothing in advertising or product packaging that is not thought out to the nth degree. Hidden mouth is intentional.

I say the same thing about people who vote republican.

  19. Ibis3, féministe avec un titre française de fantaisie says

@Ophelia Lots of people at Pharyngula who thought even the Accolade distortion might have been accidental (just to get it to fit on the DVD cover)!

  20. Francisco Bacopa says

It might be possible to take this guy down and force reprints for the misuse of “Hon”. The local state bar might have ethics rules about using titles outside of specific contexts. I think the state bar assn where he was (and I suspect it is “was”) might be interested that he uses a legal title in private publication.

Hi. Cool post. There’s an issue with your web site in firefox, and you might want to check this… The browser is the market chief and a excellent section of men and women will pass over your fantastic writing because of this issue.
