For those of my readers who are at Purdue, don’t miss out the Society of Non-Theists‘ Fiction for Fiction event next week. As I’ve blogged before, it’s an event where people can trade in religious texts for great fiction novels.
When: Thursday, April 15th, 9 am to 4:30 pm
Where: Outside of CL50 at Purdue University
How: Bring a religious text! (pocket versions accepted)
Why: To encourage people to question what they read (and to stir up a little controversy, like always)
I’ll do a full write-up of the event next week. Oh, and if you want the good fiction books, come early – pretty sure Hitchhiker’s Guide will be snatched up quickly!

What a great idea! It's not very controversial, but I suggest handing out Christopher Moore's "Lamb" if you guys can find a copy (they do sell a faux-leather "gift" edition with gilded pages, but that would be harder to find). If that fails, track down some copies of Ron Currie Jr.'s book "God is Dead." Oddly, GiD is more political than religious in my opinion.
If you're looking for something 180 degrees away from religion I'd go for J. Robert Lennon's "Mailman" or Michael Chabon's "Mysteries of Pittsburgh", only because those are two of my fav. contemporary novel.
Sorry for all the book recommendations. It's a hobby of mine ;)

I’ve always loved the idea of having a fiction for fiction event. I’m the VP of Arizona State University’s Secular Free-Thought Society and the president and I have been putting together our own event. Thanks so much, Jen! Keep up the awesomeness!
