Absentee Voting

This November 6th marks the first time that I will be out of my precinct during general elections. I freaked out a bit when I realized this yesterday; I have never done absentee voting. Since the election is less than two weeks away my first thought was that I’d be too late to turn around …

Why I’m Voting No

Vote No Jeep

Ben from TheSweatervest blog invited me to write about why I’m voting no to the Minnesota Marriage Amendment this November for his 42 Days of No project, which is highlighting “Why I’m Voting No” stories by Minnesotans (he started it 42 days prior to this November’s vote). This piece was submitted for that project. I am voting …

Vote No: Halloween Edition

IMAG0577 (1024x577)

This lovely household in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis has taken the Minnesota Vote No to Marriage Inequality campaign down a wonderfully thematic path: Don’t limit the freedom of ghouls to marry! The idea that this amendment might pass makes for a very scary story, indeed.

Crazy Faith, Adoption and Zombies

DSC_0024 (1024x683)

Here are a couple of odd signs that have caught my attention over the past couple of days: Seen on the back of a car in a parking lot. Short version: No arguments here. Deeper version: I think this might be a reference to Susan William Smith’s Crazy Faith: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives. According to …

I sat in the fourth row of the Cowles auditorium in Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Audio was spot on and there were no technical issues to distract …

6 O’Clock BS – First Avenue Rocks Even Harder

DSC_0003r

A couple of days ago on Facebook I saw a billboard of First Avenue supporting same sex equality. I was so excited that I had the Hubby drive me downtown so that I could see it and snap some photos for myself. The board is located off of Glenwood Avenue by the Minneapolis Farmer’s market: Isn’t it pretty? First Avenue is …

6 O’Clock BS: Praying on the Street

Last Thursday night I was approached on the street by four puppy-eager teens. I was getting off of my motorcycle and heading to the 19 Club, a gay bar one block off of Nicollet Avenue and a few blocks from downtown Minneapolis. The four kids were all clean-cut and smiling kindly. One of the girls …

Rental Scam!

Hey! Somebody tried to scam me on Craigslist (shocking, I know!). The Hubby and I are toying with the idea of moving into a bigger apartment so I browsed around on Craigslist and sent out a few emails. One response was WAY to good to be true (i.e. too cheap for what was offered). Other …
