Play Along Pareidolia Follies

This is a post by guest blogger Ellen Bulger.

Light up some incense, if that helps. Crank up some new age music. Break out the wind chimes. Lay out some crystals. Surely you must have a geological souvenir from the gift shop of a children’s museum? No? Well, hell, how about rock candy? Table sugar is a crystal. Sprinkle some of that around. Just set the mood, will ya?

Comfy? Got your mind wide open with the breeze blowing over all those meaty lobes? Good.

Now what do you see?

Water. A stream over some kind of rocky bed. Do I get some kind of prize?

It’s the face of jesus…oh…sorry had a smudge on my glasses. It’s what Enkidum said. Guess I’ll just eat my sugar cube now.

Light glare on an uneven surface probably either water as already suggested or maybe glass. The glare itself to get into the spirit of things looks slightly wingy with feathers but that’s all in my mind.

It’s a squid. Oh wait, this isn’t Pharyngula.

It makes me think of a bird’s wing. But that’s probably wrong. I suck at these XD.

The blue is really throwing me off. It looks (to me) exactly like the same color and texture of the chalk dust that I was using in my chalk line earlier to mark off cuts on lattice.

Water over rocks, probably a creek, although it took me a minute to get it, it looked pretty abstract at first.

I fear this one is going to take some priming. What are we supposed to see?

My guess is that someone’s saying it’s an angel’s wing. I think it’s a picture of cloud cover from above (satellite photo?)

I’m almost certain it’s a pic of water pouring over something, and the colors are mostly reflections in the ripple pattern and such.

But I was pretty wrong on the last one, and, well, yeah…

The pareidoilia effect gives me the impression there’s a bearded old gorilla along the right hand side.

Other than that, I suppose it’s water running over rocks in a stream/shallow river, with ripples caused by an object not in the photo.

Umm…a piece of driftwood, frozen in ice? Or a marine animal surfacing?

It is clearly the Creature from the Black Lagoon, but apparently some HEATHENS see an “Old Gorilla”

it’s a picture of water flowing into a stream. the shutter was left open a bit so things are a little blurry. the feathery looking things are wave crests/ripples from surface disturbance.i bet the brown thing is a stick under the water.

    The wings of an angel!

Either that, or the terrible-to-behold face of our lord Cthulhu about to break the surface of the watery deep.

It looks like a reflection of some kind of spotted cat (at the bottom of the image) in running water ?

An orangutan, face in top right, looking off to our right, opening his/her mouth slightly in anticipation of some yummy tropical delights…
Or wait… Never mind, just another alien, hungering for some finger food….
