Cross-Country Connections is a Biodork weekly blog entry dedicated to telling stories in pictures of three family members – me, my sister and Mom – living in very different locations across the country. Every week we choose a different theme and then take or contribute a personal photo that fits the theme. This week’s theme is Fast.
From Erin in Bellingham, Washington:
A yarn swift in motion.
From Mom in Carbondale, Illinois:
A hummingbird at Mexican Hat, Utah.
From me in Minneapolis, Minnesota:
At first glance I thought this guy was a hummingbird – it was huge and moved with that same stilted motion that hummingbirds have when they zip from flower to flower – so it was a pleasure to learn that this guy is actually called a hummingbird moth.

Just a note to hummingbird fans – the red dye may be harmful to the hummingbirds.
Heat 1 cup water for two minutes in a microwave and very slowly and carefully add 1/4 cup of sugar. Dissolve, cool and use in the feeder.
