Pro-Choice Kittehs

Do you want to help fund abortions for women and families who can’t afford them? Do you like cats?

Okay…I KNOW the second question is the more controversial statement in this crowd, but just say yes to both.

Say yes?

Every year the NNAF – National Network of Abortion Funds – hosts a bowl-a-thon fundraiser. This is a series of bowl-a-thons that take place all over the country. Individual teams form up and raise money that go directly into abortion funds. Why are abortion funds important?

From NNAF’s website:

Abortion funds are local, grassroots groups that work tirelessly to help low-income and disadvantaged women who want an abortion and do not have enough money to pay for it. Abortion funds help women pay for their abortions, help them buy bus or plane tickets, and even offer a place to stay for those who have to travel for an abortion.

Okay, so you want to help out, but you don’t want to bowl. You can start your own Virtual Bowl-A-Thon! Or, if like me, you’re not ready to host your own team, you can donate to one of the many virtual teams out there. I like DC Abortion Fund because they’re giving away free kittehs (Don’t let the ALL-CAPS turn you off – it’s for a good cause):

READER, YOU AND I BOTH KNOW THAT I HAVE A SICK PRIVATE STOCK OF AWESOME CAT VIDEOS AND PICTURES. FOR EVERY DONATION OF TEN DOLLARS OR MORE I HAVE I WILL ADD ANOTHER SICK ASS CAT PICTURE OR CAT VIDEO TO THIS PAGE AT THE BOTTOM.

Okay, okay. If kittehs aren’t a good incentive, how about this?

ALSO: IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OR UNEMPLOYED, I WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION.

And if DC Abortion Fund isn’t your speed, there are plenty of other teams who will happily accept your donations.

Donate because you support women who want and need abortions. Donate because you understand that the right to legal abortion isn’t the same as being able to afford a legal abortion. Donate to make a statement against the invasive and degrading legislation that has been proposed in the US every year since we have gained the right to legal abortion. Do it because you’re pissed off. Do it because you care about your fellow human beings.

Or do it for kittehs.

*feigns innocence* What? No events for MN? Sarah, you should totally start one in Minneapolis! (I’m too busy to set this up on my own, but if you’re interested in discussing perhaps collaborating on a local team, shoot me an email).
