Vote for Iron Chariots Wiki!

Atheism.about.com is running various polls for favorite atheist resources, and Iron Chariots is among the finalists!

So yes, this is shameless self-promotion of an Atheist Community of Austin-originated resource, but there are other great reasons to vote for it. Bear in mind that as a wiki, the more widely Iron Chariots is known, the easier it is to draw in great editors and improve the content. So get out there and vote!

Edit: The Atheist Experience is currently running second place for best podcast.

Update: As has been pointed out in the comments, both of ours are handily ahead now. Go, fans! We loves ya.

You knew this was coming, didn’t you?

So the Rethuglican Taliban are on the warpath, and once again they’re all about using the government to shove Jebus down all our throats (all the while pontificating that they got back into power because they’re all about “less government,” of course). So far, we have one gasbag here in Texas wasting no time in making sure that Ten Commandments slabs are erected in every school in the state. Just how many lawsuits over idiocy like that do we need before they figure it out? And the San Antonio paper has a poll, in which jackbooted theocratic thuggery is currently ahead by a two-thirds margin. We aren’t Pharyngula (I and several other folks I know have emails out to PZ at the moment), but perhaps we can “AXP” this poll just a tad in the direction of religious freedom and sanity.

Anyway, to those of you on the left who sat out the mid-terms because you were disappointed that Obama didn’t fix the world fast enough, welcome to your new Saudi America.

Addendum: PZ has now posted and the squid hordes have acted, and the poll is where it should be, at over 90% against.

Whoa! Can AXP readers “Pharyngulate” a poll? Try now!

Via Pharyngula, of course, we learn of this poll that Jen (not ours) has put up over at Blag Hag, asking for votes on “the most influential female atheist of 2009.” And while there are certainly a number of admirable names on that list — Susan Jacoby, Amanda Marcotte, Rebecca Watson, Eugenie Scott — they still must, in the end, lose ignominiously to our very own Tracie Harris & Jen Peeples, who are listed together for some reason, probably so AETV fans won’t have to pick their favorite but most likely because they’re just that awesome! So get your asses over there and spike this one, people. Despite PZ’s plug, the votes have become rather spread out, meaning that regular readers here should be able to muster up the numbers to boost Tracie and Jen, if not into the lead, well up into the top tier where they damn well should be (especially when you delete cookies, refresh the page and vote 20 times)! Stand up and be heard, AETV fans! Fear the mighty mightiness of the Jen & Tracie “Chicks Kick Ass” Power Team!

Addendum, 10:25 AM the next morning: Okay, it now looks like Tracie & Jen have inched past Rebecca Watson to move into the third-place spot, behind Eugenie Scott and Ariane Sherine. Nicely done, gang, but keep them votes a-comin’.
