Lecture by Heina Dadabhoy begins at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, at 40th and Speedway (4001 Speedway, Austin, TX 78751).
Cruise leaves at 6 PM, don’t be late. Meet at 5:30pm at Capital Cruises’ dock, on the river, behind the Hyatt Regency Hotel, on the South side of the river. That’s between the Congress Ave. bridge and the 1st St. bridge, on the South shore. The number for Capital Cruises is (512)480-9264 if you need last minute help, or see their web site.
Heina will also be cohosting The Atheist Experience show tomorrow.
This Wednesday, September 9, I’ll be giving my “Embrace your Inner Skeptic!” talk for the Secular Student Alliance at University of Texas at Austin. It’s going be in WAG 420 from 5:00-6:00 PM. There will be a Q&A session afterwards, and maybe some other activity.
(If you want to attend, maybe don’t watch the video first, or you’ll hear it twice.)
My first episode in the new studio…
John Oliver ran a fantastic segment last week on The Prosperity Gospel. You should watch it. We discussed it on The Non-Prophets a bit too.
Adam Lee wrote a post about this segment asking, “Should We Pity the Victims of the Prosperity Gospel?”
Forgive the link dump, but I have just been cleaning up my Non-Prophets News document in preparation for tonight’s show (tune in live!) and I didn’t want to let go of a special segment that was brimming with schadenfreude.
If you’re not listening to The Non-Prophets: Well first of all, you should be. Second of all, I do this regular segment called “Shit Internet Apologists Say!” in which I do a dramatic reading of some recent over-the-top ridiculousness by a religious blogger or columnist, and the other hosts help to pick it apart.
Of course, on the last episode gay marriage had recently become the law of the land, so I did a Very Special Episode where I scattered this stuff in bits and pieces throughout the episode. I don’t keep these news stories forever; however, this batch deserves to be saved for posterity. Some of these I didn’t even get to finish reading.
I’m in the Dallas airport with Matt Dillahunty, who has been working tirelessly all week to get the ACA studio set up to broadcast the show this weekend. At this time it looks like broadcasts should continue on Ustream without a hitch. The alternate Channel Austin site will not stream the show this week, but if all goes well, we should be able to stream live on our YouTube channel now.
Since three of us are unavailable to host this week, we had to call in a special strike team, so I’m pleased to say that Non-Prophets host Jeff Dee will be in the host spot this Sunday, with Martin Wagner as cohost.
Calls are still up in the air. This may not work, but please try to Skype or Google hangout with the address email@example.com. Add this contact early if you plan to connect.
Enjoy the show! Unless you’re in St Louis. If you are, come to Gateway to Reason and meet us instead!
Tomorrow morning, Matt, Tracie and I will be up at a ridiculous hour to fly to St. Louis for the Gateway to Reason convention. I’ll be the first speaker after a movie screening, at 3:00 PM. Matt will speak at 5. Tracie will be on Sunday at 2 PM. There will be many other great speakers over the weekend. Hope to see some of you there!
